New questions about what's happening inside
an ICE warehouse in Roxbury.
Homeland Security now acknowledges
processing 14 immigrants at the site,
despite a court order restricting its use.
Now local officials and members of Congress want answers
and access to the facility.
News 12 New Jersey's Chris Keating
in Roxbury with the growing controversy.
It is very likely we'll see inspections
of the warehouse very soon along Route 46
by members of Congress and members of the Roxbury Township Council,
those who want to get a look inside.
inspections that could verify reports from detainees.
We have also heard directly from the detainees that were housed here
that they were housed in a warehouse in cages in Roxbury.
Ciara Wilson is with a group called the Sussex Visibility Brigade.
They are admitting to a small portion of what they have done.
It makes me wonder what is actually going inside.
Her organization recorded ICE arrests in Dover back in September
and followed those vehicles to the Roxbury warehouse.
Homeland Security now admits 14 people were arrested
and processed there before sent to detention centers like Delaney Hall.
Homeland Security bought this property for $129 million
with plans to turn it into a detention facility.
But Roxbury officials and Governor Sherrill pushed back,
saying the property couldn't handle the sewer and water needs.
In turn, a federal judge said the property should
not be used until an environmental study was finished.
I think we've caught them red-handed.
David Broderick is an attorney with a group
No Ice in Northern New Jersey Alliance.
He says ICE also defied the consent order
by admitting to daily training at the site.
They claim they won't bring anybody else
by way of detention to the facility.
I don't know if we can take it like the word or not,
but they also seemingly indicate that the training will continue,
which would be an ongoing violation.
And New Jersey Congresswoman Annalilia Mejia will push to get inside.
She told us this was no accident.
ICE officers deliberately misled the municipality and state
by conducting processing operations with supervisory knowledge.
It is likely the judge overseeing this case will issue sanctions.
As for those 14 detained at the warehouse, some have been released.
Others are at Delaney Hall,
and the location of some of those immigrants remains unknown.
In Roxbury, I'm Chris Keating, News 12 New Jersey.
We've reached out to the Department of Homeland Security
for further comment on the Roxbury warehouse.
We'll let you know what they say.
