Road Trip: From apple picking to pumpkin patches, Demarest Farms brings families into the fall spirit

Well, fall is officially here and a family farm has everything to get you in the mood. News 12 New Jersey's Amanda Eustace takes us to Demarest Farms in this week's road trip close to home. There's something about fall at the farm and for more than a century, Demarest Farms in Hillsdale has brought the taste of the season to this part of Bergen County. You're going to be on the hayride. You're going to get your fall picture in with the family. You're going to get your fall favorites going and you're going to make that memory that generational memory. I see so many families come with their kids and then 15 years later they come back with their kids. kids, so it's just so exciting. Apple picking is one of the biggest draws. Families can head to the orchard, pick their own, and take home different varieties throughout the season. Wow, that is really good. What was it? It is a Ruby Rush. Oh my god. And then there's the pumpkin patch, where finding the right one can be part of the fun. Early on you want a nice dry, dry year so it's a good set and good pollination for the flowers and everything like that, and then they got enough moisture in August to size them up really nice and well. And a trip's not complete without coming inside the farm store and picking up some goodies. From a scratch bakery, salad bar, deli, all the local grown and homegrown apples. And my favorite part, apple cider donuts made fresh and served warm. And you can't forget about the petting zoo. They are so cute. At night their pick your own section of the farm transforms into a Halloween drive-thru light show. But just as one season winds down, another one is already taking shape. We take those decorations down in November and November 5th we're putting up the Christmas decorations and the same thing it's a drive-through lighted Christmas show with displays we have Santa down at the store we have all displays down at the store this year something brand new we're doing is the petting zoo that's right behind me is we're decorating it out for Christmas a fall tradition now with another reason to come back later this season for this week's road trip close to home I'm Amanda Eustace
