AIC receiver Hardley Gilmore nears single-season record

Redemption story is taking shape on the football field at American International College in Springfield for a transfer from a division one program. 22 News reporter Lexi White joins us live in studio after speaking with the player and his coach about his journey. It's a story about perseverance, a change in direction and the support system helping one wide receiver get back on track to achieving his dreams from a division one school in Kentucky to a D two school in Springfield, Massachusetts. Many may be wondering what brings Harley Gilmore here and that would be a second chance. Everything is a lesson when you sit back and look at it is everybody think once something go bad is all wrong I mean just sometimes you need to sit back and relax and see what see what's around you and just be where your feet are. That way of thinking set a plan into motion to be better on and off the field. The Junior at American International College is giving it his all on the track to beating the school's single season yard record the current being set by Travis Poole with 1209 yards in 2008. Now Gilmore only has about 500 yards left to beat it. Everybody want to end up in the NFL so thank you for showing the way, guiding the way at AIC and just allowing me to have the opportunity to break it. Never say can't, never let nobody tell you what you can't do because at the end of the day we can do whatever we put our minds to. He says being able to play comes with having a great support system. And two of Harley's biggest supporters are none other than the athletic director and his wide receiving coach here. They say they want Harley to succeed at AIC. His coach works with him closely being his mentor since he was seven years old and the one to bring him to AIC. Once some things didn't go his way and there was an opportunity I seen a window thought that he would be a perfect fit and try to rebuild some of the things that didn't fall in place for him and he was going to have an opportunity to be a part of a family but this wasn't just a second chance for the wide receiver when you get the opportunity like a division one receiver like Hardly to come and have that on-field impact um not only talent wise but culturally and you know to kind of reset the program as a whole it was a really great thing for us the AIC Yellow Jackets take on Post University this Saturday getting Hardly Gilmore a bit closer to beating the single season yard record. Working for you, Lexi White, 22 News.
