We have some breaking news to get to right now.
An active hazmat situation forcing evacuations
at multiple government buildings.
Local Congressman Maxwell Frost and Darren Soto both say
suspicious packages were sent to their Central Florida offices.
Fox 35's Bailey Bockover is live outside Frost's office in downtown
Orlando right now with what we're learning about this, Bailey.
Hey, Jack.
I'm standing in front of Maxwell Frost's office where that suspicious
package was found here in downtown Orlando around 2 p.m. today.
Thankfully, Frost says he and his team are safe.
Earlier today, police, fire rescue, including hazmat,
were all staged down the road here as a precaution.
They've since all left and cleared the scene.
Now, this is the first of two incidents that occurred today.
Darren Soto's office also intercepted
a similar suspicious letter containing a suspicious substance.
Soto credits Frost's team with giving them an early heads up
to screen their mail before anyone was exposed.
Law enforcement officers were able to seize
that package before it reached staff and no injuries are reported.
Federal investigators say these Central Florida threats match dozens
of letters mailed to election officials
and lawmakers in at least 15 states nationwide.
Right now, the FBI and U.S. Postal Inspectors
are sweeping incoming mail and working to track down who sent them.
Congressman Soto also released a statement saying this is an act
of political violence that has no place in our democracy.
Reporting live, Bailey Bockover, Fox 35 News.
