While the storms this weekend are
expected to wreak havoc across our
coast and Fox 35 Chris Lindsey has
been out at the beach all day long.
So Chris, how things looking right now?
I did hear your mic check earlier.
It sounded pretty windy.
Yes, it is windy out here,
but overall the conditions are fine.
The sun is out, the water is calm,
and though there are a few clouds rolling in,
things are expected to get much worse.
This weekend, the waves may be a sight to see,
but this weekend they could also be dangerous.
A weather system is expected to bring heavy rain and wind gusts
of 40 to 45 miles per hour along the Volusia County coast.
It's going to be crazy.
Large breaking waves could reach 8 to 10 feet,
creating dangerous conditions for beachgoers.
And the timing of this storm system could make things even worse.
We're in the middle of king tide season
when some of the highest high tides of the year occur,
meaning the water will likely reach further up the shore than usual.
I'm concerned about the erosion on the beach.
They just did a lot of work here,
and I hope it don't affect all that effort they put in.
Volusia County Beach Safety will be flying the red flags this weekend,
telling beachgoers to stay out of the water,
as there will be a much higher rip current risk than usual.
And if you do find yourself caught in a rip current,
you should swim parallel to the shore.
Reporting live in Volusia County, Chris Lindsey, Fox 35 News.
