Yeah, you know what? This is a pretty crazy one.
It happened last night around 10 p.m., and we're actually near where
this motorcycle crash actually ended at Payne and Ford in Riverview.
It started up in Wyandotte,
and you can actually kind of see how pretty tight this turn is.
It's an 18-year-old who lost his life in this chase.
He was going 100 miles per hour, according to the cops.
Up by Biddle and Spruce is where Wyandotte police tried
to basically pull him over.
and then the chase ensued. Only went for a couple
of miles before this crash ended here. Now you're
taking a look at some video that we got
from the bar near where this crash happened and you can
actually see he takes that turn onto Payne.
It is a dead end over there and then he either crashes
into the railroad tracks, hits the police cruiser.
It's a little unclear. It's hard to see but this
18-year-old did die after this police chase, so very sad thing to hear.
But also, police say this
guy was going over 100 miles per hour down Biddle,
and remember, that goes straight through downtown
Wyandotte. Take a listen to the police as well
as the bar owner over here, their thoughts on this
whole situation. Well, it's just a dangerous situation,
and coming around this curve is even
more dangerous. People don't realize how sharp that curve is.
So it's a shame that, you know,
it has to happen. Shame that we still run from the police.
You know, people are anti-police
pursuit. I can tell you right now through experience,
I have a great deal of it, that
it's absolutely imperative that the police don't stop pursuing.
These officers alert people like
these pedestrians last night.
There's a good chance that they will hear those sirens. They
will see those lights way before they see that speeding vehicle.
And it alerts them to use
caution and we can never say you know what it did last night
but I know in the past it's it's
saved lives. The chief says he's reviewed
the footage he's reviewed all the protocols he says
that this chase was justified
and stands by his officers as well as the commanding officer who was
you know whenever they have
these chases they usually have somebody back there who's who's
keeping an eye and monitoring this thing saying whether
to call it off or not. MSP is handling
the crash investigation. I'm live tonight in Riverview.
