And developing this morning,
we're following reports of several people shot in Fairhill.
Ellen is on the scene there this morning.
And Ellen, what have you learned?
Good morning, everyone.
A lot of police officers are still here
on the scene after a violent morning.
Take a look at all these shell casings.
We're seeing at least 60 markers.
You can see members of the crime scene are still here.
We're still trying to gather information about exactly what happened.
But here's what we know.
Let's get right to the video.
A captain out here at the scene does confirm that five people were shot
and at least one person is
dead. The call came in about four o'clock
this morning that a shooting happened at a bar here
on Lawrence Street that's just off Cambria.
Now one neighbor tells me a fight started inside the
bar then spilled out onto the street
and that's where most of the shots were fired. As again you
can see from all the shell casings, now again we see at least 60 casings.
The neighbor also says this
bar is always crowded at all hours of the morning
and that there's been trouble out here before now
one man just drove by and said he doesn't even want
to come outside here anymore right now police
aren't saying how serious the victim's injuries
are or if they have anyone in custody i also asked
if any suspects are still on the loose
and if the public should be concerned no one out here at the
moment could confirm that information
but we're hoping to get more details as soon as this
investigation wraps up they could be out here
for quite some time we're told but again at least one
person is dead, four others injured
in this shooting here at a bar in North Philadelphia.
And as soon as we get any more information, Greg,
we of course will bring that to our viewers.
All right. Ellen, hate to hear something like that.
All right. Thank you for that update.
We're also following reports of a deadly car fire this morning.
A call came in around 2.30
this morning on the 8400 block of Enterprise Avenue
for a car fire that's just outside of
the Philadelphia airport perimeter.
Fire crews reported that the car exploded in the parking lot
Philadelphia Police Homicide Division has responded to the scene
and happening now the
eighth annual Market Street Run for Blue
the event just got underway at 8 a.m the five mile run and
three mile walk from Old City to South 23rd Street
and back raises money for the Philadelphia Police
Foundation you can see right there Kevin Bethel he's doing
a interview right now live now which
supports this whole event supports
the city's police department this year it's also in support
of and in memory of officers shot
in Philadelphia recently including Officer Shane Sieber who was
killed in West Philadelphia last Saturday
which you can only imagine he's probably talking about
that right now well guys the hitches just keep coming
for the Eagles quarterback Daelin Hertz
has been put on injured reserve meaning he'll miss
at least four games it's because of a blood clot
in his calf the Eagles say they discovered the clot on Saturday
but Hertz was still able to play
against the Jaguars in London on Sunday.
However, a follow-up on Wednesday revealed
that the blood clot had moved,
requiring further treatment.
It's a tough blow for a season already on the rocks,
but many fans aren't counting the birds out just yet.
I'm hoping for the best.
I think, especially with the return
of DeVonta Smith as a target for Tanner,
I believe that this team still has some life in it.
Tanner's got a big time stepping up, and I think he can do it.
All right, yeah, Tanner McKee is going to step up to the plate.
The Eagles take on the Panthers at the Link at 1 p.m. today.
And in Bucks County, a Halloween display is causing controversy.
We want to warn you, some might find the display disturbing.
This display in Bristol Borough shows
several bodies hanging from a tree.
The NAACP is calling for the display to come down
and released a statement on Facebook saying,
for black Americans, the imagery carries
a painful historical significance rooted in lynching and racial terror.
It's a body wrapped in plastic with duct tape around it and hanging
from a tree, not one, but five, with a noose around the neck.
That's very inappropriate.
Now, Fox 29 talked to the homeowner over the phone.
He says they're just Halloween decorations
and there was no other agenda when he put them up.
He says he's sorry if it offended anyone,
but he plans to keep them up through Halloween.
Also in Bucks County,
Ben Salem police say a man used fake paperwork to get his hands
on a rifle at Ben Salem Walmart and then walked out undetected.
Police say this man presented fraudulent
clearance documents for a Winchester rifle.
This was around 2 o'clock Friday afternoon
at the Walmart on the 3400 block of Horizon Boulevard.
Investigators say surveillance shows him stealing the gun
and hiding it in a rifle bag before leaving through the garden area.
He was last seen heading toward a SEPTA bus stop in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to call Bensalem Police.
In Delaware County, the William Penn School District
is standing behind its decision to suspend all athletics
at Penwood Middle School and high schools.
It comes as an outside investigator looks into an alleged
hazing incident involving the high school's football team.
The district says the suspension was a difficult decision made out
of concern for student safety and is not intended to be permanent.
The statement says in part, quote,
we're taking steps toward resuming athletic programs
with measures in place to address our current concerns.
As we evaluate each team's culture and climate, we'll identify areas
for improvement and address any gaps in safety precautions.
Teams may resume activities when the district determines
that appropriate measures are in place to support student safety.
Well, every step counts in the fight against Alzheimer's,
and hundreds of people gathered for yesterday's walk
to end Alzheimer's at the Berks County Heritage Center in Reading.
The money raised supports the Alzheimer's Association research efforts.
Fox 29 is sponsoring the walk,
or has been sponsoring the walk for the last 26 years,
and our very own Judea Murray served as yesterday's emcee.
Next Saturday, the walk heads to Ocean City, New Jersey.
The Philly bike ride returned to the city yesterday.
Nearly 7,000 cyclists gathered for the fifth annual Cruise
at Your Own Pace 20-mile ride.
Starting on the Ben Franklin Parkway, cyclists of all ages
and abilities got a chance to explore iconic landmarks
and car-free streets, including Independence Hall,
City Hall, Love Park, Chinatown, and more.
Riders also enjoyed a celebration featuring live entertainment,
food vendors, and games.
