AI GeneratedTees & U, a popular Vietnamese cafe known for its creative drinks and pastries, has expanded from Tysons to a new location on Rockville Pike in Maryland. The cafe serves as a community gathering spot, offering a diverse menu of bubble teas, Vietnamese coffee, and halal-certified snacks, with plans to implement late-night hours at the new site.
After nine successful years in Tyson's,
popular Vietnamese cafe Teasing You has officially expanded
into Maryland now with a brand-new location on Rockville Pike.
Now, the shop has been known for a while for creative macas,
Vietnamese coffees, house-baked pastries.
This morning, we're getting a firsthand look here in the Fox 5 kitchen.
Joining us live here this morning is Whitney Neely and owner-CEO
of Happy Endings Hospitality, operating partner Christine Lee.
Thank you very much both for being with us this morning.
We should point out the obvious that I should be sitting down during
this because I just look gigantic right now next to you guys.
But listen, this is one of those instances I wish people at home
could smell what we're smelling here because it just smells amazing.
But first, let's tell people about Tee's.
I'm not familiar with it because it's
a good place to get a cup of coffee.
But how long has the business been in effect?
And what is it that you do a little bit differently
that I think most people won't expect
from traditional places where they go for coffee or tea or some place?
Yeah, so, you know,
being in the community for about nine years, we've seen a lot.
And it's kind of like a place to, you know,
do COVID, do the good and the bad.
I think now is an exciting time
because we're actually open late to 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.
So we actually is a gathering place for a lot of students, families
that want a nice place to just come and enjoy, drink tea, eat pastries.
And I think what we do differently is not just bubble tea,
but we have great Vietnamese coffee.
Yeah. And what's great about it, though,
is like you can go in there hungry and leave not hungry.
You've got a lot of food. So what's what's the idea
as far as what you're bringing to the table for folks
that they really just can't get anywhere else?
Yeah, so thank you so much.
So, yeah, like Tootie said, we're teasing you.
I think what we're known for is definitely our popcorn chicken,
but also not only our bubble teas.
Is that what we're smelling right now?
Yes.
Popcorn chicken over here.
Oh, my God, it smells so good.
That's literally my favorite thing on the menu.
Like, you'll always see me eating one if you catch me in stores.
And recently we are, so we fry everything in seed oil-free oil,
an organic fair fruit oil, and our chicken is no antibiotics ever,
and it's also halal.
So we find that it fits everyone's needs.
Covering everybody's bases there, right there.
All right, so let's start with the tea.
Because obviously it all starts with the tea at T's & U.
What is different about, say, Vietnamese tea than,
you know, English tea or any of the other teas?
Yeah, so the whole idea with bubble tea for us,
we kind of grew up drinking it.
So it's kind of something we're really familiar with.
So it's either fruit teas, milk teas, and Vietnamese coffee.
And you can choose toppings.
So today we actually brought some of our most popular
and bestsellers from the store.
We're going to make it for you.
Okay.
And then we're going to maybe customize it.
Well, let's get started.
Let's make one.
Yeah.
Easy and short.
Yeah.
So do you like Vietnamese coffee?
So when you usually come to the shop.
I'll say to you what I say to my bartender.
Surprise me.
Surprise me.
Okay, okay, okay.
Let's do fusion fruit tea.
We should do.
Here, I can hold this.
All right.
So let's get going.
Yes, yes, yes.
All right.
All right.
So, fusion fruit tea,
and then we also have the Vietnamese coffee, the ube cold foam.
Why don't you make this, and you tell me about the new store.
Yeah, of course. I would love to.
So, yeah, our Rockville location just opened up on September 26th.
We've been operating for about a little bit over a month now.
Located on Rockville Pike.
Okay.
We're planning to open our extended hours just to replicate our Tyson's
location very shortly, sometime around the end of the month.
So we'll be bringing our late-night hours to Rockville very soon.
Very cool.
Okay.
All right, so what are we making here?
We have cold brew right here.
Okay.
Okay.
I'm going to do, so you can start with the first drink.
Okay.
Yes.
All right, so what are we making?
Cold brew?
Yes, yes, yes.
Here.
And then I'm going to make fusion fruit.
Fusion fruit.
Yes.
All right, now the bubble tea is wildly popular amongst young people.
What are in the bubbles?
Oh, so we don't have the tapioca bubbles, but it's made with tapioca.
So it's kind of chewy.
It's just something that's fun to have
in your drink as you're drinking it.
It's kind of like in Vietnamese culture, we have chè.
So usually it is a dessert eaten with tapioca,
jelly, fruit, with coconut milk.
So it's kind of like a version of that.
A version of a dessert.
This one is your cold brew?
Yes, I'm going to be putting our ube cream cold brew on top.
I'm a heavy cream person,
so you left enough inches on the top of that thing.
There we go.
All right, now that's the cream?
Yes.
It's kind of purple.
Yes, so ube is going to be our flavoring for the cream,
so it's not going to be a vanilla flavor.
Ube is actually a Filipino sweet potato.
Can we show this?
I've never seen this.
Why is it purple?
So ube is a starch that's usually purple.
It's one of the most popular and trending ingredients right now,
and it's actually our color of the season.
Really?
I'm going to try this.
It's really strong.
Yes, it's going to be really strong.
You know, it's incredibly chocolatey.
This is delicious.
But, like, you know, your eyes see purple,
and they think they're going
to taste something sweet and fruity, but it's not.
This is like, oh, my God.
Vietnamese coffee is dark, nutty, chocolatey.
It does have fructose in it.
I'm a little bit nutty, too.
So we're going to take a quick break.
We'll be right back in the Fox 5 Kitchen right after this.
