2 arrested after fleeing officers, crashing through Scottsdale Airport security gate

A man and woman are in big trouble tonight, accused of crashing through a security gate at Scottsdale Airport and then running across the runway. This happened overnight after a case of suspected illegal street racing, and Megan Spector has more. Behind me, you can see the damage to this gate here at the Scottsdale Airport. It's still taped off after police say suspects forced their way right onto an active runway. Phoenix police say officers tried to stop a vehicle linked to illegal street racing around 11 p.m Saturday the driver fled but officers were able to keep a close eye on the vehicle on the ground and in the air fortunately we have the support of the air unit our air support unit that came overhead and was able to participate in surveillance another measure that those detectives took was they were able to successfully launch a GPS tracking device onto the back bumper of that vehicle so we could safely monitor where that vehicle was going. Eventually, the suspects pulled up to a gate at the Scottsdale Airport. When officers moved in, police say the driver backed into a detective's vehicle, then smashed through the gate and even hit an unoccupied small plane on the tarmac. Air Traffic Control audio captures the warning to pilots. It appears to be a police helicopter orbiting right over Scottsdale Airport. He said there was a police chase that ended up on the airfield. The driver and the passenger fled on foot across the runway before officers caught and arrested them. Police used a taser when the man actively resisted officers during the arrest. There two of the suspects in custody and they are checking to verify that the runway is actually not obstructed. Police identified the pair as 33-year-old Liberty Dawn Still and 24-year-old Michael Gregory Wall. It's an active runway. So the potential danger of what could happen, who knows? It can be potentially catastrophic. But fortunately, these officers and detectives we're able to take these people into custody. Both suspects now face felony charges and the FBI is also involved in the investigation. Reporting in Scottsdale, Megan Spector, Fox 10 News.
