You decide we're less than six days away now
from the midterm election and reports
of a plan to confuse voters are shaking up Alaska's U.S. Senate race.
Yeah, at issue, two candidates with the same first
and last name and whether Democrats helped
one run of them to confuse voters.
Fox's Sarah Allegra is live in Anchorage,
Alaska. And Sarah, the Department
of Justice has already filed a lawsuit.
We'll be right back.
Hi there, Ellen and Mark.
Now, the governor is also calling for a state investigation.
As Fox reports, this federal probe here is intensifying
with several grand jury subpoenas expected here in the coming days.
Now, the center of this all, we have Republican Senator Dan Sullivan.
He's seeking reelection,
but we've also got independent Dan Sullivan also running for that seat.
Now, Democrat Mary Peltola is a senator's main challenger.
Now, the New York Times reports Peltola's campaign
in the Democratic senatorial campaign.
The campaign committee were involved
in the recruitment effort of the other Dan Sullivan
and that Peltola knew about it yesterday at a campaign rally.
She denied this.
This is all stuff to sell newspapers.
This is all stuff to get subscriptions.
Nobody at the New York Times cares about affordability in Alaska.
Now here's how the two Sullivans appear on the ballot.
They're among four candidates
because Alaska advances
its top four primary finishers regardless of party. Republicans
argue the second Sullivan's candidacy was all
to confuse people about who they're supporting.
But Senator Sullivan telling Fox's Sean Hannity,
Alaskans aren't stupid.
The candidate I'm running against had a scheme
for over a year to try to trick Alaskans.
That shows total contempt for the people of the state of Alaska, Sean.
And as the Times report draws scrutiny,
voters we spoke with offer different views of Peltola's
character and politics. Listen in.
I think she's honest, and to me that is one of the most
important things about this campaign.
We all knew there was something going on,
and then when they found evidence,
it just reconfirmed what we already believed.
The state's investigation is looking into whether
or not any kind of laws were broken.
This is President Trump is calling for Peltola's name
to be removed from the ballot and that
she face prosecution.
In Anchorage, Alaska, Sarah Allegra, Fox 10 News.
