Adam Joseph has been officially named the Chief Meteorologist at 6ABC, succeeding the retired Cecily Tynan. The announcement celebrates Adam's 21-year tenure at the station, his deep passion for meteorology, and his role as a beloved Philadelphia fixture known for his authenticity and commitment to accurate, hype-free forecasting.
We are over here in the Weather Center tonight
because I get to share some pretty extraordinary news,
not about the forecast, but about the person delivering it.
And it gives me great joy to share this.
My dear friend and treasured colleague, Adam Joseph,
is now formally our chief meteorologist,
succeeding Cecily Tynan, who, as you know, retired a short time ago.
We just couldn't be happier for you.
You're so deserving of this moment.
I'm saying my heart is beating a mile a minute right now.
The attention, I don't like all that much,
but I'm happy to be beside you for this.
Adam's going to have a whole lot to say in a moment about this.
But first, our other very good friend, Alicia Vittorelli,
with a look now at the long road to this moment.
I think my son was born to do the weather.
If you ask his mother, Nancy, Adam Joseph was made for this moment.
He was always looking at the sky.
Ask his colleagues and friends
in the weather department, and they agree.
A storm is coming. Whether he's at work,
whether he's at home, he's got his head in the models.
Take a look at those lows.
Adam came to 6abc in 2005 taking a tumble
and 21 years later he is now officially our chief
meteorologist i am so thrilled for you i am honored
to pass the clicker on to you well to our east
for more than two decades adam has helped us weather every storm
do you have a tornado warning
adam has also brought his own sunshine into our lives
with adventures of all kinds from parades
to forecasts down at the shore,
trips up high in the sky on hot air balloons,
even trapezes, polar plunges, fall fun, spring flings.
Adam has become a true Philadelphia fixture,
ringing the bell for the Sixers
and banging the drum for the Philadelphia Union.
He's also opened his home to us, sharing his cooking and baking tips.
It's your garden!
His love of gardening.
Welcome to the North Pole, or at least mine.
And absolute passion for Christmas and holiday decorating.
And happy Pride to you all.
Adam also shares a special bond with our viewers
with his authenticity and humanity.
In 2014, he became the first major on-air news personality
in Philadelphia to publicly come out as gay
when he and his husband Carl announced the birth of their son, Jacob.
Here's your baby sister.
Two years later, they welcomed their daughter, Hannah.
The kids often join him on the air for forecasts and fun.
Keep doing it, buddy. Keep doing it.
And now Adam begins his next big chapter in our homes
and in our hearts as 6ABC's chief meteorologist.
Alicia, thank you. She's in here.
If you know me, I'm one ball of emotions usually.
But anyway, put that aside, Adam.
All right, I'm beyond honored and excited for this opportunity
to lead what I believe is the best weather team in Philadelphia.
Now, if you look back at our station's nearly 80-year history,
we've always had the perfect leader
in place to guide us in our weather world.
Our weather world, it was Jim O'Brien, Dave Roberts,
and Cecily Tynan, three incredible, trustworthy superstars.
To follow in their footsteps, it is a privilege of a lifetime.
For me, this is a dream that truly started at birth.
My parents, who are watching,
have always reminded me that I was born during a flood.
It's true. They almost didn't make it to the hospital.
Weather has always been the ultimate constant in my life.
I live, I breathe, I obsess over getting
the forecast as perfect as possible,
even when Mother Nature throws us that sharp curveball.
I want to thank everyone here at this station who has supported me.
We've had so much fun and more fun to come.
I do want to give a special shout out to the photographers
who joined me on all those crazy
adventures I'm sorry there was one time
that I actually cracked my head and was bleeding during
the forecast and I still got through it they've
been through it all with me to my family my
husband Carl my kids Jacob
and Hannah daddy has had to miss some important milestones over the
years but your love
and support they mean everything to me you are my world now trust
honesty and zero hype that is my motto
with weather becoming increasingly severe i promise
that Karen Brittany Peyton Paul our weather producer is a superstar
and i will continue
to give you the very best and you deserve nothing less
with that being said i have a very easy seven
day forecast thankfully for you moving forward let's take
a look at it here yes the coast has
some issues up and coming with some erosion
and coastal flooding but for us and then look at all
this sunshine here over
the next seven days high temperatures near 70 tomorrow mid to upper 60s
through the middle of the week a little cooler on friday
and then on saturday sunday 63 66 degrees
and beautiful even next monday with the temperature sitting
at 70 that is the one flaw i got i swear
is being an emotional person
and it's just you know what it is i care i care about everything
that I put my passion into and I'm so
blessed to be alongside you and Deuces
and Rick Williams. This just means we get to hang out
more. Six o'clock every single night.
Can we have a party after every night? We're going
to have a party for sure.
Yeah. Thank you.
I'm so glad to be next year. Congratulations.
