I'm going to teach you guys how to do a proper pull-up.
100% the correct proper way to do it.
I'm going to show you the common mistakes
that beginners make and show you exactly what
a perfect pull-up should look like.
The pull-up is a staple technique with calisthenics. It is
one of the fundamental calisthenics workouts
that you can do to build that back. Secondary
muscle groups worked on a pull-up are the biceps,
your forearms, and your grip. Stick around until
the end of the video and i'll give you some beginner tips
if you struggle with your pull-ups
and how you can do some stuff to get you there let's discuss technique
so when you grip the bar
you want to make sure you get a deep solid grip you don't want
to be hanging on with your fingers
you want to get your hand all the way around that bar
and hold it tight you don't want to grab it
and hang down like this make sure you get the hand all the way around
and get a solid grip on that
that bar. Now the second piece of advice
and probably the best piece of advice is to pull
properly engaging and using your back muscles.
And I'm going to show you exactly what I mean.
The number one mistake I see with pull-ups
is people pulling with a protracted scapula with
a rounded back. So they're grabbing
and they're trying to muscle their way up with just their
arms. Instead, you need to engage your back
and get that scapular retraction. So it should look
like this. Picture yourself pulling the bar
to your chest rather than pulling it to your face.
it should look like this.
Scapular retraction, pull to your chest until your chin clears the bar
all the way back down. Scapular retraction, pull.
This way, I'm engaging my lats and my back more
and relying less on my arms
and not putting unnecessary strain on my shoulders like this.
This is not how you want to do your pull-ups like this.
Right here. Boom, boom. What about the body?
Should your core be engaged or should it be relaxed?
Your core should definitely be engaged
for a pull-up so you don't want to have
your lower body kind of just loose and hanging there
you want to have it stiff and controlled
so avoid doing it like this don't have your legs just
flopping around and pulling up rather engage
your core get that proper setup boom boom if you find
yourself struggling with pull-ups
but you are confident in the easier variations I have a get
