Let's go to this 2026 team here.
How come every time I watch Brock Purdy play,
I mean, I just see this guy getting better and better and better.
I mean, Randy, he is just maybe not so great
in the second half of this one here,
but man, is he a great football player.
Are you surprised at his development with Kyle Shanahan?
Well, if you separate those questions or you separate those subjects,
are you surprised that an un you know basically
the last guy in the draft from Iowa State
would be dominating at the NFL level right now
at record levels you'd be a liar if you said no i
expected this um Kyle Shanahan has done unbelievable things
with Brock Purdy but also give credit to
Brock Purdy Brock Purdy has worked his ass off
um and he's got some pretty good weapons at his
disposal he's got a real good offensive line
and he has got that thing and you saw it with that
number 16 guy from Notre Dame he had it for his whole career
so did Steve Young to a degree so
did Jeff Garcia that timing that bounce that you know
the accuracy and he's just refined it and
refined it and refined it in fact you know as good
as he was last few years I think this year he's
probably having his best season he's ever had uh doing
that i mean his his accuracy can be pretty
scary when you watch that thing from the end zone you see
the size of the windows he's hitting
you know Kyle Shanahan made a comment
in his uh post-game press conference you know he was like
hey it's great being six and oh it's great being you know where we
are right now but he's going to
be gauged on what he does in the postseason just
as you guys were you know i mean no matter how
many wins you have it's now time
to another win another championship in San Francisco and that's
the only time that he's going to be gauged
when we're talking about whether or not he's truly one
of the greatest coaches of all time right right he's getting there
um but like you said it's not
you know how you win during the regular season it's how you finish uh
and the standard which
is a term that's you know pretty common
in the San Francisco 49er building the standard is the
standard and the standard is a platinum trophy it's got
a little football on top of it um and
that's how you're supposed to end seasons end the report period
and if there's anything i wish for
that organization all those people in there all
those players is a chance to finish the season
the right way and once they do it could
be contagious it could get ugly again they could
win a bunch but it's there's no other way
to put it i mean you're supposed to finish things off and
they know that. And I think the fans know that.
And I think, you know, that's why they get so
nervous during the season when guys start going down
and guys start getting hurt. But one thing
that doesn't get talked about enough,
because we all talk about Shanahan and we talk about Purdy
and we talk about some of the individuals.
How about the job that John Lynch and the personnel
department has done, not only drafting,
but free agency and everything else, because they keep
coming up and churning out these guys that you see them
on the field they're going damn where
did they find this guy and they just keep hitting on them
and I think that's that's something you
got to pay a lot of attention to as far as their success goes
