Good afternoon everyone and welcome to 22 News at 4 o'clock.
I'm Aretha Odaya. We'll get to your top four at four in just a moment,
but a look at your commuter traffic
and weather with meteorologist Brian Lapis. Brian Aretha, how are you?
Great. How are you? I'm good. The sun was shining today.
It was pretty nice day. We got more of that on the way this week too.
Actually, let's take a look at traffic first. Yeah,
why don't we put that traffic a little bit of a slowdown as usual.
Either end of 291. That's the same old deal and 91
looks fine a little slow downtown
but no major problems now we go to temperatures and we're in
the mid to upper 60s just like we expected look
at that near 70 right now greenfield 68 springfield
westfield 65 in northampton there probably
are some 70 degree readings on car thermometers

all right thanks brian one person has died after
an apartment fire in Chicopee it happened last
night at the edward j burry apartment
on benoit circle fire crews responded around 7 35 and they
saw smoke and flames coming from the back
of the building after entering firefighters found an
adult man who died from his injuries,
his identity has not been released. The fire was contained to
a single unit. Five residents of the building have been displaced
and are being assisted by
the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
And a former Western Massachusetts
teacher has been indicted in Superior Court
on child pornography charges. Prosecutors allege
that Keith Harrison of Lenox communicated online
with someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl.
Investigators also say they recovered child sexual
abuse material during a search of his home.
The 53-year-old was arraigned in district court last,
pleading not guilty to those charges.
Harrison remains on paid administrative leave
from Chicopee Public Schools.
East Hampton City Councilors are taking up
a proposed divestment resolution tomorrow.
Supporters say the measure calls on the city
to divest from companies they believe are complicit
in human rights violations in Israel and Palestine.
Records provided by the city treasurer show
that East Hampton has about $454,000 invested into companies identified
by advocates, including GE Aerospace and RTX.
If the resolution passes, East Hampton will become the second Hampshire
County community to implement a municipal measure of this kind.
The Massachusetts House is moving forward with a $2.35 billion spending
bill, but without several of Governor Maura Healey's biggest proposals.
House lawmakers removed Healy's proposal to suspend
the state's 24-cent-per-gallon gas tax for two months.
The House bill does include funding
for programs including MassHealth, DTA caseworkers,
and life sciences, sector and maternal mental health services.
House leaders say the bill addresses time-sensitive funding needs
and will help close out the state's previous fiscal year.
The House is expected to vote on the bill Wednesday.
If approved, the Senate would still need to take action.
Now let's get another look of the weather with Brian.
It's a nice day for a walk, maybe go outside, hang out with a friend.
Yeah, all of the above.
You know, today may be the warmest day of the week,
but we expect dry weather into and potentially through the weekend.
So there's that. I kind of gave it all away.
Back to you, Retta.
Okay, let's take a look at clouds and radar.
You can see here that we're in the clear.
There are some clouds off to our south and to our east associated with
a storm that's kind of spinning around to our south and to our east.
And some of those clouds will get in here for tomorrow.
But today, sunshine through sunset,
then a mostly clear night here tonight.
Light breeze out of the north, evening temperatures 50s and 40s.
Overnight lows will be in the 30s and 40s, we expect.
So another brisk start to the day.
And here are those clouds I was talking about.
seven o'clock tomorrow morning a few clouds here
and there i'm tempted to call it a mixture of
sunshine and clouds tomorrow a little breeze out
of the north notice even a little gray here toward
the end of the day we expect it to stay dry
