Family, friends, fellow officers and members of the community gathered to honor fallen Philadelphia Police officer Sgt. Shane Seiber.
Saying goodbye to a fallen hero, family, friends,
and scores of fellow officers from across the region
pay their final respects to Sergeant Shane Sieber today in Center City.
The father, too, being remembered for his life
and dedication to his family
and service to both country and community.
It is Tuesday afternoon. I'm Brian Tapp.
And I'm Christy Aletto. Sarah Zoff.
The big story on Action News is the funeral for Shane Sieber,
who was posthumously promoted to sergeant today.
Now following the service, a procession carried Sergeant Sieber to his
final resting place as onlookers gathered to pay their final respects.
Action News Maggie Kent live now at the Basilica today
with more on how the sergeant is being remembered. Maggie.
Brian and Christy, his kindness, his smile, his stories,
that's what we heard about again and again when we talked to friends,
when we heard the eulogies today here
at the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul.
Now Sergeant Shane Sieber will
be remembered for his selfless sacrifice.
His watch has ended earthside, but his love is eternal.
Shane Sieber, posthumously promoted
to Sergeant of the Philadelphia Police Force,
had an eternal light, now carried by his grieving family and friends.
Sieber is survived by his wife of 11 years, Lisa,
a 7-year-old son, Finn, and 3-year-old daughter, Emily.
I want them to know that their father,
Officer Shane J. Sieber, badge number 7258, was a man
who showed through his actions what he thought and what he felt.
Sieber was killed in an ambush on October 10th,
a 10-year veteran of the police department after serving
in the Air Force, completing two tours in Iraq.
Fellow airmen Jerry Murphy.
And in June when I was shot,
Shane ran blocks through the rain to get to me.
Arriving at the trauma bay, soaked in rain and sweat,
just to make sure I was okay.
Posthumously promoted to Sergeant,
Sieber was bestowed the department's Medal of Honor and Purple Heart.
The medals recognize sacrifice.
Promotion recognizes service and leadership.
But his life tells us who he was.
Today, his partner, Officer Hector Rodriguez,
shot 12 times in the ambush,
was in attendance to remember his friend and brother.
It's going to be hard, I know, because he lost a partner and a friend.
And we all, I mean, Officer Sieber was a good guy.
We all lost a friend, a family member.
So I just hope that their families can get through this.
And today, Mayor Parker announcing
the establishment of the Shane Sieber Foundation.
That is a scholarship that will go towards other men
and women who live lives of service.
We're live at the Basilica.

An incredibly powerful scene there today, Maggie.
