All new at 6, alligators are lurking
in nearly every body of water here in Florida.
Of course, we can't spot them sometimes.
One Florida company is developing a new AI tool
to alert people if a gator is near.
Streaming anchor Garrett Weimer joins us live in the Alert Center now.
And Garrett, the company hoping it will
give people some peace of mind near water?
Yeah, either that or let them know when to stay away from it.
So it's called Croc Alarm, and it uses AI and sonar to detect
when a gator is nearby and let people know.
It's the brainchild of a South Florida startup,
Wildlife OS Inc., and CEO Rodolfo Saccoman.
I talked with him this afternoon on Florida Live.
Now, CrocAlarm is still in its early phases right now.
They're honing the technology.
The next step really is to field test it across the Sunshine State,
something, though, you could someday see installed by cities,
HOAs, golf courses, amusement parks, and resorts.
When I was riding my bike in North Fort Myers,
I started really paying attention that there's all this signage.
It's just basically a piece of paper that says, go at your own risk.
And in my mind, we said, oh, my God,
there has to be a solution that enables a way for people
to enjoy the environments more, for us to protect pets.
Sakamon says it would benefit not just people,
but the creatures as well.
We can more peacefully coexist with them.
You know, we can say later gator after a while crocodile,
depending on which one we know is nearby.
and of course stay away from it give it some distance
as you know we would like to and wildlife
os doesn't plan to stop at reptiles either
because once they've perfected croc alarm they say they
next plan to roll out shark alarm that would
