I want to talk about Harry and Meghan.
They're back in London.
Why?
Why did they go?
Harry missed home.
Money opportunities.
Did they dry up here in Montecito
in Los Angeles in the entertainment business?
Does he want to heal with dad?
Maybe one day, you know, you can't heal with William
if you don't get a little closer to him.
Kind of start wearing him down a little bit.
All of the above.
There's many security concerns.
remember uh last year May of 2023 after losing
his appeal over his security arrangements you know
while he's on British soil Harry said as clear
as day I can't see a world in which I'd bring my wife
and children back to the UK at this point
that was May 2023 what are we a year and a half later
not even less than a year and a half later
and all of a sudden you're already there
uh Harry took to the government took
the government to court over the decision to
strip him of taxpayer financed police protection after he stepped down
as a working royal he lost
that BBC now reports that that decision will be reassessed
because they're not visiting anymore
they actually live there now
so maybe that's a different situation uh he's not a working royal
and that he has no official functions right there's
no desk at Buckingham Palace he has no staff
other than the ones he pays for granny
his grandmother rejected the whole half in half
out option so Harry what does Harry do he's still doing
the Invictus Games which is again I don't
think he gets paid for that maybe he does um he's close
to a bunch of other charities because of his
mother died. Meghan is still operating as ever.
He has a vibrant tabloid war going. He hates the
tabloids. Of course, look what they did to his mother.
He said he fears the same fate for Meghan,
which is why they went to America.
In his lawsuit against the Daily Mirror, he testified that he
moved to California due to the constant intrusion,
inciting of hatred and harassment by the tabloid
press into every aspect of our private lives,
which had a devastating impact on our mental
health and our well-being.
How does this guy go back after saying that? And yet, Harry and Meghan
serve up photos of their kids all the time with pictures always blurred
or stars over their faces,
or you just see their little feet seized by the fireplace.
It's almost like bait. It's really
sort of annoying
um there's major major you know family strife i i can't imagine a world
be hard to find a world where somehow you know
he heals with William and i think he's a pretty
popular guy harry but uh but his wife his wife kind
of struggles a bit she's the executive editor
of Page Six she's a brit with bite
my friend Melanie Bromley darling let's is the move
working for Harry and Meghan it's only
been a little over a month gosh if i had to say yes or
no i would say probably at the moment
no it really feels like they have you know kind of like flown
over to England and and bombarded
and kind of forced themselves into this like british royal
family and I'm not sure it's going
so well now that's just me from the outside you know I think
if you were to look at them
and be expecting them walking down the road with William and Kate
playing happy families like that like if you're
if you're waiting for that then of course that's
not happening but we're also it's kind of their life in London
and England and the Cotswolds just
seems a little bit strained from the rest of the royal family.
Is the Cotswolds as beautiful as
it sounds? I feel like I really need to go to Cotswolds.
Pick something in America. What is
the American Cotswolds? Well, you know,
I've only just moved over to the East Coast. So I've only
just been to Connecticut for the first time after 20 years in New York.
But I would say that kind
of New England, gorgeous, like a little bit rainy.
You have to wear Wellington boots. Think about
all that but then you get like log fires in the house
so it's cozy it's the opposite of california
it's absolutely on my bucket list
and i'm going i'm going for like several months i'm going to
rent a house for three months in the cotswolds
so i really you have to i will give you
recommendations of which pubs to go to and what
to do and it's gorgeous oh a pub with a fireplace
in the cotswolds oh my god that's all i need okay
so they give several reasons right did the money
dry up here in, you know, in Santa Barbara,
in California, where there are no more opportunities.
They blew it with the podcast. They blew it with Netflix.
Harry says, I want my children to really
know my motherland and go to school here.
And of course, you know, there's reuniting with his
father and maybe down the road somewhere with a lot of effort.
William, where do you rank
the reasons why they did this?
You know, I think life in California is super expensive. And it's
especially expensive if you're trying to keep up
a life living in a multi-million dollar house
in Montecito. And, you know,
you need to have a lot of money coming in to cover those costs.
So, you know, when we were kind
of working out how much it was costing them to be there,
it was maybe, I'm trying to think,
but like half a million, I think, every single year. And
that's before you've kind of taken into account the schooling
and all the other things that come
as far as security and so forth
so like it was a lot of money going to England Harry does have a
great circle of friends we know that they've
been staying with some friends we know that Harry like
has a very big support network now that's even outside of his brother
and his father he just has
a wide circle here it's easy for them to do things here
and it also you would be forgiven if you were
following their life in the uk now to not like mistake them
for being royals they're doing their
public appearances they're doing it looks like
they're doing royal appearances but actually
they're not but then at the same time harry's
also going and doing speeches and he came to
new york for a bit he did his master class of course
on grief they are earning money but actually
to live a nice life in the UK is cheaper and it's
also where he you know knows it's where he belongs
so it's where he belongs actually maybe i take
that back it's where he knows and so like there
is kind of obvious reasons to go back to the UK
and take on top of all of that Prince Charles's
health he's not going to be around forever
so and Harry does have a relationship with his dad yes
it's strange but he has a relationship
so of course he wants to be near his father as well
Wills i don't know uh it's going to take a while
for Wills he's not he's very pissed off at Harry
for taking off and granny granny was the one
who said there's no half in and there's no half out
none of this they're not working royals
um they don't you know the fact that they can cherry pick
their events i understand the first one they did
in Nottingham went quite well the the crowd was
happy to see them that will settle it's always
the first one that's kind of nice i'm just wondering
how they make their money i feel like they're
professional charity patrons right this is our
our our really we we just go to charity events
and we're seen now we can't get paid for that
or it's not charity i mean it's not charity you can get maybe
your security bill paid or something
like that maybe that's inflated but the you
but the charities and their attendance is what builds
the profile exactly they must make money elsewhere
so how does that work exactly i mean the more
relevant they are the more in the public eye they
are the more the demand is for them from the
private sector right so whether you're being paid
to speak at a conference on tech and online
bullying or whether you're being paid like it's
that kind of stuff that will bring in the money
and also for Megan like whether it's acting you know it just kind
of it depends I think it's
I think what's so interesting about all
of this is that the big money initially was made with
spare the book the Netflix deal the Spotify deal all
of those and those have kind of petered out
right like it's just like Netflix yes their documentary was incredible
but their project
since then have not been successful
so like it's now like where else can they find the money and i
do feel for them billy
because these are two people that actually it's very difficult like
if you and i lost our jobs
and we absolutely needed to get a job we could go and work anywhere
you know we could go and work
at starbucks like harry can't he can't do that he can never live a
normal life so they have to find other ways to make money
and it is going to be easier in the
the UK because of just like the fact that costs of living are lower
and because he has a circle
of friends there. And he said that.
Melanie, I don't see William and Harry reuniting anytime
soon. I think William has his his resentment
for Harry must be so deep that all of a sudden you
now you're back. He hates him even more now.
He's pushed himself. The whole point of you leaving in
the first place was that you couldn't get a fair shake here
and that the media was so brutal on you
and you were worried about Meghan.
And so you had to go to now you're back, you're back and still
not working and wearing your medallions
and doing all the things that we're supposed to do or raised
to do. I think he hates him even more.
I totally agree, because actually, I think from William's
perspective and I'm not upset with William for not forgiving Harry,
right? Because what Harry said
in the spare book was unforgivable
and like William is now carrying the weight of the crown
and the royal family he knows his dad's not going
to be around forever he's carrying that alone with
his family the more that Harry and Meghan like
when they went off that put more pressure on
William and Kate so I'm not mad at William for how he feels
but if I was William having Harry now
in my face trying to like still talking about
our rift still talking about our argument
that would really really annoy me but I
so I feel very sorry for William somebody was racist in the
royal family not granny we assume it was an aunt
or something but I mean that's just got to be
how do you forgive that I don't know Billy I actually don't know
and the fact that they're
over that and here's what's going
to be really interesting is that it is going to become is
public perception going to change
so you said that their their um public appearance they were
there was a positive reaction to it. There has been for some.
Some people are really big supporters
of Harry and Meghan. Some people are not.
Harry went to, I can't remember what it was the other
day. It was a sports game of sorts and people were booing him.
So there's this kind of like
mixed public reaction. But times like Christmas,
so Christmas in the UK, huge celebration. All of
the royal family tends to go to church in Sandringham.
They're all photographed. It's
what we see as a British public.
Harry and Meghan, I think, are coming back to California this
Christmas. However, in the future,
if they are not invited for that, are people going to start
to feel sorry for them? Are they going to start to feel like,
oh, the royal family are leaving
them out, they're bullying them, poor them?
I don't know. It's going to be very interesting
how the public starts seeing things.
They'll go up, they'll go down. I mean,
if Harry and Meghan were like a stock, you know,
you could, that's a good one. But Kalshi,
Kalshi is my main sponsor on the show.
We should be, you know, where, where is,
it's like the stock market for these two.
Cause you're right. At some point, if they seem to have
been blackballed from a family event, oh my God.
And then if William is seen as holding out too
long, then he looks like the opposite of his image,
which is a gentlemanly diplomatic, very,
I mean, when William comes over to the United States
and handles Donald Trump with great ease
and he's showing his statesmanship, you know what I mean?
And then if he's seen as being petty with his brother,
that won't play well.
Yes. Yeah. It's going to be so interesting.
And that's kind of what Harry has forced,
because Harry being I don't want to be in the royal family anymore.
I'm going to America meant
that those public occasions he wasn't present to them.
It was easy. There was an ocean between them.
to explain the differences. But now there isn't.
Now there is, gosh, 50 miles.
And what about the security issues?
Now, Harry, you know, had big clashes with
Rupert Murdoch's company, paid him out $13 million in a settlement.
He didn't fare so well with the Daily Mirror.
He's griped and griped. And one of the reasons
he went to America was because he didn't feel safe, as we said.
And they voted not to, you know,
the king said, we're not giving you state sponsored security.
You're not getting police
protection. You are not a working royal and all of that.
That said, the reason was, is because
it was about them visiting. Well, they're not visiting anymore.
It's a different landscape.
They live there now.
And I think the government might be revisiting the issue.
How do the people feel? Do the people think
that there should be security for them or screw you?
no you're on your own i mean first of all we've got
to remember with Princess Diana and what
happened with her and you know
that was a situation where she wasn't some people might
say that she wasn't necessarily getting
um the protection that she could have had you know i
you know it's like it's always debatable like
what caused what obviously it was a drink driving
incident but you know if anything was to happen to Harry
and Meghan of course there would be absolute
about it so it's a very delicate situation
however if Harry and Meghan are um you know
wanting to spend all of this taxpayers money on their security
then there would be an uproar about
that too so it's going to be an ongoing issue as far as what they can
and can't expect but
obviously nobody wants Harry and Meghan to be in danger
but i mean it's yeah it's a very difficult
situation there is um obviously talk about whether there's going
to be a i think it's next year is a
30th anniversary of Princess Diana's death
and whether there's going to be some sort of Harry
helmed documentary on Princess Diana
and what that would look like oh the next payday here it comes
yeah that could be really really interesting
and would that be something that is somebody talking
about their memories or would it in any way
and i've kind of debated this with my team being
looking back at what happened
and who was to blame for her death outside of the alcohol so it's kind
of like i'm really i'm curious to see where that goes
and what kind of questions he will be bringing
to the table with that now it's different
for harry than megan i think megan is definitely
less popular than harry harry he
when everything was good he was sort of the favorite right because
he was naughty he was charming you know he would go out
and party he had the girl he was kind of
lovably naughty right Megan came in she's got
a she's got a bit tougher hill to climb than than
Harry don't you think yes yes she was seen as an outsider
and um a lot of grace in the beginning
they were all excited about her and this whole thing she
was calling out that you know that
there was somebody racist in the family but I felt like
when she arrived they were like excited like
oh my god diversity in the royal family look
at this this is so exciting i think she squandered it
she squandered it she well because well she did
because she was so honest and by the way good on
her for being honest in her documentary what you know telling
her truth right and so like but if
you are a brit and a royalist or a monarchist
then that is the idea of criticizing the royal family
publicly I don't know it's
a very difficult thing I've always liked Meghan because I think that
Meghan gave Harry um the confidence that he never had
as a spare heir he was always felt to be
number two and he met somebody
who actually made him feel like he was number one and that's a very
very beautiful thing but I
also understand why some people yeah it's just it's very difficult
i think it's going to be hard for her to come back
and to be truly loved but she has given
harry a home at a time
when he hasn't he moved here for her and i'll say her stock goes up
because she just moved there clearly for him it
was not her ideas her sacrifice so you gotta give
her some points for that in the ever undulating
you know harry yeah i absolutely agree the
executive editor of Page Six. There she is.
Melanie Bromley. Thank you so much, my love.
I appreciate it. Good to see you.
We were there for William and Kate's wedding together.
We've covered a lot of royal things together.
I need something royal to cover soon. So if there's
like a reuniting or there's like they let him back
in or there's some type of ceremony, I'm going. I
miss it. To the consuls I go. Yes, exactly.
It's lovely speaking to you. Oh, my darling. Thank
you so much thank you
your mic is your mic
is muted billy your mic
is muted oh you mute can
you can you not unmute me i'm there i
am um so what's interesting is everybody in the comment
section is talking about the Windsors
the Windsors have you seen the Windsors i what is that is it
it's different than uh than the Crown i don't know never seen
the Windsors and i and and and
every Wednesday. And I'm getting texts from friends
who live in London who are listening
right now live.
And they're saying, also, you must see the Windsors. I'm on to that.
Fascinating. Fascinating conversation.
I want to see how this works out. I am very interested in
it. Are you? Do you care about the William Harry,
the Harry dad, the Meghan Kate? One of my best
friends that I went to high school with,
he's a Brit, lives over there, and his wife plays
Padel. Oh, that fancy, like, pickleball's already dead.
It's Padel now. Plays Padel in the same
club league with Kate, Princess Kate.
She and Wills love the Padel, apparently.
