Fall fever taking over Tampa Bay and we absolutely love seeing how
our community is cheering on our team.
These photos are proof of how big of a Rays fan
a lot of the community is, right? I just love it.
And for one local couple watching this team vie for World Series ring
is bringing back some really special memories of when they stepped up
to the plate to say, I do. Oh, this is such a great story.
Let's bring in our Fox 13's Ariel Placencia.
She's joining us live in studio to tell us about this couple that got
married at the Trop and they've been married Ariel for how long now?
17 years ladies wow very awesome so let me tell you about them
so he grew up in Seminole lifelong
fan the two of them meet they start dating she quickly falls
in love with the Rays too
now she's also studying at USF St. Pete during
the 2008 World Series run so they're going to
all the watch parties they're right in the middle
of all that excitement now one year later now it's
2009 and they're trying to figure out where to host
their wedding reception we wanted something
And that reflected, you know,
our fun nature and something that was important to us.
So Kathleen and Aaron Dahl swung for the fences.
Why toss a bouquet in a banquet hall
when you could ring cowbells at Tropicana Field?
I was like, why not? Let's do something different.
So the Winter Haven couple tied the knot at a Seminole church
and bought 150 tickets to the ball game.
The Rays organization even sent a wrapped team SUV
to chauffeur the newlyweds to the ballpark.
And our wedding favors were cowbells,
wedding colors were dark blue, light blue.
And then we both had custom jerseys made for the game.
The wedding party and guests took over what
is now the Sky Deck in left field.
And forget chicken or fish, how about peanuts and Cracker Jack?
Everybody's like, oh, what's the food? What's the food?
Hey, go help yourself. It's open bar, open food.
Just open your wallet first and buy me a beer on your way back.
That game also happened to be USF night.
Perfect timing for Kathleen, a USF St. Pete grad.
And what's a wedding reception without music?
Well, Daughtry played our wedding.
That was the musician that was after the ball game.
Best way to show their out-of-town guests the magic of the Trop.
And while the ballpark has certainly
left a mark on this married couple,
they've done the same, showing guests
the scratches on the brick wall in right field
from banging their cowbells during the 2008 playoff run.
Those are still there, so every time we go to the Trop,
we always get a picture with our mark on the Trop.
The couple recently celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary.
And while the traditional gift is furniture,
they said a World Series trophy would do just fine.
Let's get it done.
Get it done.
Let's get a championship for the Rays, especially
when that's going into the new stadium, the new ownership group.
And it's exciting times.
Now, that is a unique reception.
Right?
And you need a table, a couch, a lamp,
like when you can have a World Series trophy.
I mean, that'd be way better.
Absolutely.
Come on.
they're adorable yeah what a fun reception love seeing all
those pictures too from 2009
it all kind of came together USF night game everything just
so fun so awesome yeah i love
all this energy and all these stories that people
are sharing with us it's pretty awesome
it's been pretty great yeah thanks Ariel
