Thunder make MULTIPLE moves...Major roster updates
1 Video View·Oct 25, 2026
The Thunder just made two new roster moves
in the first weekend of the regular season.
We have breaking news from Shams Charania
that the Oklahoma City Thunder have signed a new
player to a two-way deal that will eat up
the minutes of rookie Otega Mowe, who suffered
an Achilles injury in the second-to-last preseason game,
and now two games into the
regular season, it looks like Sam Presti
and the Thunder are bringing in some outside help
to help get some of those minutes and fill the role of Otega Mowe.
So, breaking news here today on the channel,
a player that was drafted 40th overall in
the 2025 NBA Draft, now joining the Oklahoma City Thunder,
and likely going to see some
minutes on this team.
Welcome into Thunder Digest, I'm Ryan Breeden.
Before we get into today's video,
if you've been enjoying the content lately, go help
us reach our subscriber goal of 11,000 subscribers.
We're going to try to get there by Thanksgiving.
we've got 33 days to do it we're
at 10,500 I think we can actually smash this subscriber goal
without a doubt maybe even get to 12k
but again as this the point of this video the Thunder making
some new roster moves signing a high upside wing to replace Otega Mowe
and that player as reported
by Shams Charania is former Pelicans second round
pick Micah Peavy joining the Thunder on a two-way
deal as reported by the NBA Insider
and all of this coming after that injury to Otega Mowe who
signed the two-way deal fresh off
of his second round pick status earlier this summer he suffers
the ruptured right Achilles in the very end
of the preseason ending his season and then now the
Thunder with an extra two-way spot available
because of that injury they on October 23rd
yesterday, yesterday afternoon announced that they
are signing Micah Peavy and Micah Peavy was
a highly sought after one of the cuts that was made around
the NBA near the end of the preseason.
The Toronto Raptors were heavily linked to him.
The Dallas Mavericks heavily linked as well.
He ends up signing with the Thunder on this two-way deal
and he has had a very interesting
path to getting it to the league.
It all started back in June of his draft year when he actually
worked out with Sam Presti and the Thunder he did
that in June 2025 later that month he gets drafted
and eventually ends up going to New Orleans
his draft rights got traded from Washington
to the Pelicans he plays in 61 games in New Orleans
in his rookie year last year gets traded
to Memphis in September gets waived
by Memphis after some ankle injuries and some other struggles
that we're going to get into here in today's video
and now here he is four days after being
cut getting a waiver from the Thunder and a chance to come
and develop with the best organization
in basketball and the Thunder off to a 2-0 start here
this season the thing that is really strange
though if you go over to Kalshi right now
the Thunder are actually second in odds to face the
Spurs in the Western Conference Finals matchup
the most quote-unquote likely matchup is Timberwolves
and Spurs so it doesn't even include the Thunder
this is basically free money if you ask me right
now I like the Thunder and Spurs to have a rematch
in the conference finals if you trade $50 you
would win $146 on that today's video sponsored
by Kalshi, go click that link down below, go put
in code digest NBA when you do so you trade 25 bucks
and you'll get $55 in bonus funds added
onto your account you can trade on anything sports related like
the the trade that I just showed you
right there and either whether it be sports whether it
be pop culture whether it be music
whether it be anything in between the thing
that makes it unique is that you're trading against
other users not against the quote-unquote house like other sportsbooks
so again go click the link
and put in code digest nba to go check it out more
but continuing on with today's video basically
going one for one with PV taking away his two-way spot
and this is going to be a chance
for him to re-kickstart his nba career in the best way possible
and kind of part two to this
whole situation is obviously to free up
that two-way spot for Micah Peavy the Thunder have to
officially waive Otega away it doesn't mean
that he's gone from the organization it means that his
two-way spot no longer exists as of right now he
is going to basically be absorbed into the G League
at this moment in time
and the Thunder still own his rights they just don't have him anywhere
obligated with the main team right now
which makes sense since his entire season is now thrown
away, which is awful for him.
I mean, I'm gut-wrenched for Otega Maya and what happened,
but in a lot of ways, Micah Peavy is kind of Otega Maya 2.0,
and let's go into how that is the case.
He brings NBA experience to OKC.
Here is his rookie numbers for those of you that don't really
have a ton of familiarity with Micah Peavy.
Last season, he averaged 4.3 points a game.
he played in 61 games with the pelicans
on a very bad team he played 15 minutes a game
45 true shooting percentage the biggest number
that is the thing that he's going to have to
work on as a wing player as a guy that you want
to have as kind of a defense first type of option
he's got to work on his shooting 38
and a half percent from the field only 25.9 percent from
three not good enough for sustained minutes
at this level he is listed officially at six foot
seven 220 pounds so he kind of fits the role
of the wing position that I know so many of you out
there desire this team to have
and he has had some good games in his career the last five games of
his rookie season he averaged nearly 11 points a game
and he played 35 minutes per game as well so
he got a lot of run in several games last season
and his experience and you can kind of combine
that in with the Thunder DNA this is a perfect signing for Sam Presti
and yet another one that
is low risk I mean no risk at all
and only possibly high upside if it doesn't go well
you're not really risking anything
but if you're able to develop Micah Peavy into the kind of
player that he can be he's another guy that fits
in perfectly with this team and he is going to
just only come in and he's going to get mentored
by other wing players that are defense first
guys that have worked on their shot in their career
and have become players that are beyond
successful in this league exhibit
a being Alex Caruso I'm sorry that you can't even see his eyes
there I don't know why I cut him off like
that but you know what Alex Caruso looks like and the
opportunity obviously it's different than just
saying okay now we're going to see Micah Peavy
play in every game realistically change
of pace minutes near the end of the bench I would see him
playing between four and seven minutes
a game maybe more in games where you're up by 30 points
at halftime probably not at all in plenty
of the games where it's competitive you know you're
playing against San Antonio you're playing against Minnesota most
of the time when you're playing
against Denver stuff like that he's got a chance
to earn more if he can show some flashes and if
he can get healthy. He's got some lingering
ankle stuff right now. Again, high upside,
no risk for Oklahoma City,
and he's available now because he was released by the Grizzlies
a couple of days ago, along with Walter Clayton Jr.,
who was a fringe lottery pick. So if the
shot can translate, and that is his biggest thing
that is going to hold him back, he can absolutely
regrow his career into a really good place.
At TCU, where he was for three years in the Big 12,
He only made 26 threes,
or I guess technically you'd say he made, what, 52 threes in his
TCU career in four seasons.
He goes to Georgetown for a fifth year,
and he shot 133 threes in his senior season at
Georgetown, and he was 40% from beyond the arc.
So at that point in time, teams see his size,
teams see his willingness to be physical and
have it translate as a 3
and D kind of wing in the league people were interested in having him
come on as a late first early second round pick
which is what he was but he comes to the NBA and
the three-point shot just absolutely disappeared
into thin air 25.9% from three huge reason for
his release but he can fit in really well alongside
the Thunders creators on this team
lots of cuts to the basket a guy that can move the basketball around
and obviously you know
with the defensive prowess that he is known
for he can earn some extra brownie points with coach
Mark who is a defense first guy
and with Micah Peavy getting the chance to earn some minutes
here in this late rotation there is an interesting connection
that Micah Peavy already has with the
Thunder beyond just him having a pre-draft workout
in 2025 he was teammates at Georgetown with Thomas
Sorber back in 2024 and Sorber had
his season ended short about halfway through the year he had
his ACL injury that year sorry I mean left
his foot injury is what it was he broke his foot and
then he tore the ACL when he came
to OKC either way Thomas Sorber hasn't played yet at all in the
NBA but him and Micah Peavy were teammates
in Georgetown for the 2024 season and they thrived
with the Hoyas I mean they were the two leading scorers
on the team you see their point totals
Micah Peavy averaged nearly six rebounds a game he had nearly two
and a half steals a game
and obviously his shooting splits were phenomenal him
and Thomas Sorber quite literally were
Georgetown basketball for the 24 games
that they crossed over with one another now obviously two
years later they both end up
with Oklahoma City Sam Presti ultimately liked both of these players
and he was able to get both of them Thomas Sorber obviously
as a first round pick two years ago who
hasn't yet played and Micah Peavy as a guy
who he can now bring in with quite literally no risk
involved the swing skill for him is gonna
be the outside shot if he's able to knock down some of
those shots more consistently get some help
from the Thunder coaching staff and their development
team and also work with some of the guys on the roster
and in the G League if he can turn those
open looks into points
and his useful defense involved with that he can earn a much bigger
opportunity with Oklahoma City
and you can just see what things look like when it is at its best
he played against Minnesota back in a game
in April 21 points he was two of four from three
six of 12 from the field he played 41 minutes
and the dude balled out against a really good
Timberwolves team midway to end of the season last year
so Micah Peavy there's a reason why
teams really really were interested in him off of the waivers
and we're going to see if he can earn
those minutes going forward he's going to have
to get healthy as a reminder two-way deals this is
basically what it means NBA
and G League development opportunities no true financial risk for the
Thunder other than the minimum requirements
that you get with the G League contracts
NBA availability you're going to follow those two-way limits
and then you'd have to sign him
to a standard contract in order to have the playoff eligibility
and the Thunder do have a 15th
roster spot open right now
because they weren't able to get Spencer Jones from Denver but my
guess into how this whole thing is going to go
is that he's going to spend more time in the G League
than he will anywhere else for most of this next season
but I think his NBA experience and the
development that he can go through with this team gives him
a unique skill set that he can add at
least on to the Thunders roster in some place he's
an obvious shooting project no doubt about it but
he's going to have a good opportunity
and I want to get your guys's opinions now down below in the
comments let me know how intrigued you
are by Micah Peavy joining the Thunder do you expect him
to get decent minutes going forward in the first couple of games
when he's available do you like
the skill set fit do you think it's going
to depend entirely on if he can shoot or do you just
need to see him first because you don't really know exactly what it
is that you're expecting
from him let me know on all of that obviously
this is the upcoming schedule for OKC and the
times that he could potentially have
to play you're gonna have four games this next week
Clippers and Suns back-to-back Sunday Monday
on the road against Dallas on the Wednesday 28th
and then on October 31st Halloween you're gonna play at Houston
but yeah let me know kind of what
you guys are thinking it down below
and then our comment spotlight of the day I think this is going
to be a great opportunity for coach Caruso
to maybe help coach up Micah Peavy into being a
usable interbench player for Oklahoma City I mean
the dude started his career as a developmental
project in himself with the Thunder G League he ends up making
a career out of himself in LA and
then Chicago he comes back to OKC helps you win a title
and now the dude is the bald mamba that's
feared by everyone in the league for his defensive game
and what he can do, which is knock down three
point shots in the biggest moments.
Make Caruso a coach after he retires. Hell, let's make Caruso
a coach now. Let him coach up Micah Peavy while he's
also playing and help get the Thunder another
usable player. So again,
let me know what your guys' thoughts are on this down below. More
breaking news, any of those kinds of things,
all will be right here on the channel. So remember to
