The Saving Senior Dogs Week, the week-long campaign,
brings together senior dog rescues across the country
to share their rescue and adoption stories.
Several of those organizations participating
are right here in Northern California,
including Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary in Petaluma.
Let's welcome Hannah Dewey,
Assistant Executive Director with the sanctuary.
And you brought Daisy.
I did. This is sweet little Daisy.
Hi, Daisy. Tell us about Daisy.
Yeah, Daisy's about 11 years old.
She was an owner's surrender to us after
her family had some just life changes and they had to move.
She is just the sweetest little girl.
There's not one friend she hasn't met that's not her best friend.
Got it.
Hi, Daisy.
Yeah, she's very sweet.
She knows her name.
Yeah, that's right.
Still very playful.
She loves to still chase the ball.
You.
That's right.
That's right.
Yeah.
So when it comes to senior dogs, unfortunately,
people want puppies or, and I understand,
the reason why people might shy away from senior dogs
is because they'll get attached they won't
get that much time right daisy's 11
so she you know she's going to have less time than someone
who's a puppy yeah but what are the benefits there's still
so many benefits to adopting a
senior dog um they still you know i think
a big misnomer is that they don't have much time left
and yes they might have less time than a puppy
but they still have plenty of energy and adventure
left in the tank. And they're still just such
lovable family members and they have lots
left to give. Right. And they deserve a good home.
They deserve a great home. Daisy says
adopt me. Yeah, they do. She does. Yeah.
And you know, they're looking for a soft place
to land and they're just so grateful.
They're so grateful for the love that you give and
for being saved and for a new lease on life.
So Daisy's available to be adopted, right?
She is, yes.
Okay, what can you tell me more about her?
What does she like to eat?
Look, here comes Brian.
Well, as you can see, she's very friendly.
She's best friends with everybody.
Yes.
Very kissy, very cuddly.
She goes for walks and stuff?
She goes for walks.
She still will go chase after a ball.
Don't let her fool you.
She's very excited to be in the studio.
Had to sniff and smell everything, investigate everything.
And in case Daisy is not there,
you have plenty of senior dogs that need homes, right?
We do. We have lots of other senior dogs that we consider
a senior dog seven years of age, which is still pretty young for a dog.
And so we have lots of pups at the sanctuary right now that need homes,
all sorts of different breeds, ages, 50 pounds and up in Petaluma.
She's a lab, right?
Yes, she's a lab. She's a black lab. Yes.
And how can people, let's just say people don't have room for a dog,
but can they help your organization in other ways?
They sure can. Actually, this is our eighth annual
Saving Senior Dogs Week that we're in right now,
and there's actually 37 participating senior dog rescues
and sanctuaries throughout the country
participating to really raise awareness that senior dogs,
you know, face in the shelters
and being adopted, but the joys of adopting them
and really the joys that they still bring.
But unfortunately, they're the most euthanized dogs in the shelters
because they're the large
breed and they're older and not as many people want them
um so they really have a harder time
being seen so this is a social media campaign
highlighting uh rescued dogs throughout the
country um you know this is a this we're Lily's Legacy in Petaluma
but this is really a nationwide
issue and so Saving Senior Dogs USA
is a website where you can go find a rescue close to you
whether it's in Petaluma or elsewhere
um and then go check out social media where you can see more
rescue stories of of senior dogs like sweet little Daisy here
and their happy endings all right Hannah
Dewey from Lily's uh legacy uh thank you for joining us
and thank you Brian and Daisy
Brian speaking do you want a dog i have a dog
but i'll take a second can make room for one more
we'll be right back with more mornings on two stay with us
oh good job Daisy
