The body camera video of the arrest of a woman accused
of stealing a U.S. postal van in Columbus
and driving it to Metro Atlanta where she was caught.
Fox 5's Doug Evans has more on the story.
Marie Shuler is in trouble with both local and federal authorities
after allegedly stealing a mail truck in Columbus
and then making the 80-mile trek to Metro Atlanta.
Video from the Sonoy Police Department
as they assisted in the takedown of Shuler
at a gas station near the intersection
of State Road 17 and State Road 85.
Check that number,
842-683-6384,
842-683-6384.
Backside clear.
Already on the scene, the Coweta County Sheriff's Office
as well as a deputy from Meriwether County,
Columbus Police say Marie Shuler jumped
into the unoccupied mail van after a postal worker
had stepped out.
They say she then drove up State Road 85 to Meriwether County,
then into Coweta County, where authorities pulled
her over and took her into custody.
She's facing both state and federal charges for the theft of the truck.
Columbus police say they've taken out warrants for felony theft,
also theft by possession of stolen mail, as well as theft by taking.
The Coweta County Sheriff's Office says she's
being turned over to federal authorities.
Right now, we can confirm that she's
been transferred from the Coweta County Jail
to the Muskogee Jail, where she's been booked in.
I'm Doug Evans, Fox 5 News in Coweta County.
