Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe speaker identifies a water leak caused by a malfunctioning float switch installation. He explains that the system continued to run despite water filling the pan because the float switch was wired incorrectly, only cutting power to the condenser rather than the entire system. He demonstrates the correct wiring method to ensure the unit shuts down completely during a backup.
Y'all see this? I just pulled this off.
I don't know if that's what the problem is or what.
This is where my water's coming from.
This is wet because it sticks down in this pan right here.
It's been wicking it up and pulling it out here,
but still, if there's water in this pan,
as y'all know, something's wrong.
Okay, I was questioning how this could happen if we got
one of these SS2 float switches.
I thought maybe it wasn't level, but I think I found my problem
right here i'm gonna try to show you real quick
all right first i kill the power this black right
here goes to my float switch and if you
look it goes into the thermostat wire
that green isn't
used so it kills red to the condenser that's
not going to stop that's not going to stop it from
running and cooling you've got to kill red to the thermostat
or kill red altogether so what i'm
gonna do this is my other end
of my float switch i'm gonna show you a better way to wire it if
going to kill red and it will prevent this from
happening so instead of breaking one red you run
the mistake of breaking
the wrong one just break them both
so that way if your float switch opens
it kills power to the thermostat
and the condenser that way you know it's going to shut it off so
this is a common mistake an easy one for somebody
to make i'm trying to put this where y'all can see
it that's an easy mistake
for somebody to make
but um as you can see here's what i did i'm not
sure if i showed you this is this black wire from my float switch
and these are my two red
thermostat wires and this is red coming
from the transformer coming from the unit so i break red
entirely to the thermostat
and condenser they had only broken red to the condenser which will
not keep it from running i gotta
be careful that right there it's
hot even though i got the breaker off
The top of it is hot.
Now when
the drain backs up,
it'll shut it off.
