The sex begins with a D.C. teenager wanted
in the shooting death of his identical twin.
Investigators say it's a homicide.
But the boy's mother tonight is calling it a devastating accident.
Fox 5's Bob Barnard starts us off from Northwest with the very latest.
Police are calling this a homicide investigation.
Say they are still looking for a 16-year-old boy wanted
in the shooting death of his identical twin brother.
The mother and an aunt of the twins say they're in shock and disbelief.
Devastated by what happened here Sunday morning around 8:30.
They spoke to us off camera today.
Telling us the shooting inside the family's home
in Northeast D.C. was an accident.
That 16-year-old Jabril Young died in his mother's arms
in the basement of the house on 46th Street.
That Jabril's twin brother is scared and afraid.
Did not intentionally shoot his brother.
That they don't know where he is.
Police say the missing brother is known to hang out
in a Southeast D.C. neighborhood called Simple City
and also at the Tyler House on North Capitol Street Northwest.
That's where we met Daryl Hairston today,
who lost his son to gun violence 10 years ago.
It's something that's going to have to be worked out.
It's complicated. It's painful.
But try to make sure you can reach somebody
or attorney or lawyer that can work this out with you
because at this point,
you could be losing two kids that you already lost one.
We just trying to understand what happened in the home.
Why did it happen in the home?
This is what we got to understand.
Why are kids under 15, 16 years old carrying guns around?
It's hard to wrap your head around.
The twins' mother and aunt say police took their phones
while investigating the fatal shooting.
The mom says she was called before a grand jury yesterday,
but the questioning was stopped
when prosecutors offered and she asked for a lawyer.
Police say the 16-year-old boy they are looking
for was last seen wearing pajama pants
and at that time was believed to be armed.
New details on the man charged for a Herndon double shooting.
Police say 32-year-old Omar Perez-Villegas
turned himself in this morning.
The shooting happened yesterday evening on Astoria Circle.
Police say the suspect got into an argument
with one of the victims and opened fire.
The other person shot was a bystander sitting in his car nearby.
Both are expected to be okay.
That suspect facing multiple felony charges.
A man sentenced to nearly 40 years
in prison for a deadly Charles County crash
that claimed the life of a 16-year-old.
This is the scene in La Plata and dash camera video of that chase.
Dominic Jermaine Hawkins was convicted of felony murder
and gross negligence.
Well, the chase, which happened in December of 2024,
started after an armed robbery in King George County.
Police following Hawkins into the state of Maryland.
and he then was driving more than 120 miles per hour in a stolen car
before running a red light and then hitting another driver.
A teen victim died at the hospital the next day.
All right, let's turn our attention back to this weather here,
or turn our attention to the weather here.
For the very first time, a live look now.
For this hour, at least.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
A live look now from our Fox 5 Sky cam.
Okay, I know we keep saying, yeah,
beautiful fall day, beautiful fall day.
Yeah.
Today was actually, I was like, okay, this one's a winner.
this is when you can bottle up yeah yeah i mean they're
so similar it's like what's the difference
but what stood out i don't know i just felt the sun
was feeling good yeah no i was outside it was
just a vibe it really was yeah i mean it really
was perfect low of 50 high of 70 sunshine light
wind so yeah i think it doesn't get much better than
that that sounds like a very nice oh go ahead
no i was gonna say it sounds like she
was rapping there oh it's my weather wrap i've run out of
things to say so now i'm wrapping the forecast bars you know uh yeah
but i was gonna say that
you know along with bottling up
the forecast uh we still have some sunlight in the six o'clock
hour to soak up that's true golden hour
this is the pinnacle right here it is the pinnacle right
because we're still in daylight saving time
and the leaves are changing yeah by next week it'll
be a little different so you know what you're right it
was the best day that we've had so far
and or will have uh by tomorrow whoa big changes getting
a little cloudy in the afternoons
So something to discuss, despite the fact it'll still be dry.
It'll still overall be a very nice Wednesday.
But, yeah, we're trying hard here, digging deep.
72 was the high temperature at Reagan and Dulles, 69 at BWI.
Our average high is now down to 65.
So we were pretty mild for late October, and we still are at this hour.
Nice, comfortable temperatures in the low to mid-60s area wide.
And overnight tonight, under clear skies,
we'll fall back to 51 degrees.
So a rinse and repeat, yes, with the exception that high pressure
to our north and east will bring more of an easterly wind and that
could probably bring in a more overcast look for the afternoon.
High temperatures will be a touch cooler
as we top off in the upper 60s.
68 here in D.C. Some of us to the south may still hit 70.
We go right back up again.
In fact, it's a warm end to the week in October.
74 Thursday, 75 on Friday, Halloween Eve.
Halloween itself does look cooler,
but still very nice for trick-or-treating.
We'll have much more on that as we continue to track what's
also happening this weekend.
We're falling back into standard time.
Kenneth, back over to you.
All right, Caitlin, thank you.
One week until the midterms.
Time is running out if you're planning to vote early in Maryland.
The deadline is this Thursday, October 29th.
Virginia is two days later on the 31st.
Finally, D.C. early voting runs until Sunday, November 1st.
Election Day is next Tuesday.
And a speed bump to D.C. Councilmember Robert White's path to Congress.
CityCast reporting he can't be elected as the district's delegate
unless he resigns from his council position before Election Day.
A 1970 legal provision bans current officeholders
from taking the position.
We've reached out to White for comment, but have not heard back.
Well, new this hour, a fight over power lines
in Loudoun County now headed to the Virginia Supreme Court.
Loudoun now reports that the county as well as the school board
and homeowners association are appealing
a decision allowing Dominion Energy to build high voltage
transmission lines through eastern Loudoun County.
Now opponents argue the overhead route
would impact neighborhoods and schools.
County officials claim state regulators relied
on speculative projections when approving that project.
Dominion says the power lines are needed to meet energy demand.
And now, a major green light for The Sphere at National Harbor tonight.
Prince George's County leaders approving a multi-million dollar
financing deal to bring the high-tech entertainment venue to Maryland.
Fox 5's Shireen Raje joins us now with the very latest.
Shireen?
Angie, this is a big win for county leaders
who say that The Sphere will transform Prince George's County
into a global entertainment venue.
The county council voted unanimously to push this project forward.
And officials don't only want to attract tourists,
but also they want to make sure that the investment goes back
to local residents and minority-owned businesses get
a piece of that billion-dollar investment.
So the decision is to make sure that we're going to hire local
residents and that they're going to not just work on the construction,
but they're going to actually be part of the operation.
We're talking about a billion dollars of investment.
Are those going to the minority businesses right here
in Prince George's County, the ones that have opened,
shop, and been here in this county?
And there's an intentionality from the county executive
and this council to make sure that that was possible.
Yeah, the proposed $1.4 billion sphere would
be built in National Harbor near MGM.
It would seat about 6,000 people,
a smaller version of the iconic Las Vegas sphere known
for its massive LED screens and immersive entertainment.
Today's vote authorizes up to $215 million
in bonds to help finance the project.
Supporters say that it could create thousands of jobs
and generate millions in tax revenue.
But critics question the use of public financing.
And labor unions have raised concerns about the lack
of a project labor agreement for construction workers,
saying the deal doesn't go far enough to protect workers.
Aisha Braveboy, county executive, pushing back on that concern.
But they have never entered into what's called
a project labor agreement, and they did not do so here on this project.
But that had nothing to do with the ability for unions to compete
for those union jobs to compete for and to win contracts
and to work on this job.
In fact, everyone, including the unions, if you talk to them,
expect to work on this project, and they will.
So, yes, this is a major step forward,
but still more approvals and things to finalize
as to when this is going to open.
We're still a few years away.
Angie, Kenneth.
Thank you, Sharon.
