1 dead, 4 critically injured after apartment fire at Mott Haven NYCHA building

Definitely a devastating incident and a tragedy now as many neighbors tell us they believe the victims of that fire were a family trapped inside their apartment leaving one person dead and four others critical in the hospital. Now FDNY has not confirmed the relationship of the victims but they tell us the conditions were very dangerous after finding lithium ion batteries. Now as you can see EMS crews performed CPR on two people. This was just outside of 320 Morris Avenue. FDNY says they were alerted of a fire on the 11th floor of the Patterson houses just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday. Police tell us a 33-year-old woman, a 37-year-old man, a 15-year-old boy and another unidentified male remain in critical condition. Now the fifth person, an unidentified male, sadly was pronounced dead at the hospital. Now more than a hundred crews battled the flames here forced to bring out hazmat resources after they discovered lithium ion batteries inside now these batteries again are commonly found in e-bikes one neighbor who asked us not to show her face believes that was the cause of the deadly fire firefighters were saying that it was a e-bike apparently the lithium battery had blew up and it had it was blocking the door it was plugged in in the kitchen and it blew up next to the stove and it blocked the entrance. They said that when they tried to open the apartment, the dad was there at the door. Like, I guess he was trying to come out and try to save his family, but he didn't make it. And again, FDNY has not confirmed the relationship of the victims or that one person that is now dead. In the meantime, they do tell us that they continue to investigate what caused that fire here. That's the latest here in Mott Haven, Jonathan Calixto, News 12.
