Fatal trooper-involved shooting investigation underway in Moonachie

Tom, what have we learned? Well, Kurt, we just learned that this state trooper-involved shooting was fatal. The Office of the Attorney General telling us that a man was shot and killed here in Moonachie. We are in an industrial park in the Meadowlands. The Office of the Attorney General is not sharing the victim, his identification or her identification, nor that of the state trooper involved. Let's show you what it looked like a little bit earlier as this crime scene is still active here, and it's been so for a few hours. It all started around 5.15 on Gotham Parkway and West Commercial Avenue, the attorney general tells us. We have seen local and state police here, plus a federal presence. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is here. Now, most of the action is surrounding this car and this building. You can see it crashed into the building. The airbags have been deployed. We, of course, have had quite a week, right? It's been the police-involved shooting in Belleville Sunday night, a mass shooting in Elizabeth at a vigil Monday night. Now, this trooper-involved fatal shooting on Wednesday night. Lots going on this week. It's even impacting workers around here. This is an industrial area in Moonachie. They told us some of them are just having trouble getting home. They didn't know what all the commotion was about. I was trying to go home, like, so I can pass, but I don't know what happened. So she told me what happened. Somebody got shot and really, really surprised me because that's a quiet area. And yeah, making it difficult for those folks getting home, bus service around here has obviously been detoured. The Attorney General's office has not said what led up to the shooting, but they did say that that part of this is under investigation. No word on any injuries to any officers at this time. Again, it is a trooper-involved shooting here at this industrial park in Moonachie that has left a man dead. And the investigation continues here at East Rutherford Mobile Command on scene. and, again, local, state, and even a federal presence here. We will certainly keep you updated as we learn more about what all went down here in Moonachie. Tom Krasnowski, News 12, New Jersey. All right, Tom, thank you.
