Surveillance video coming into our newsroom within
the last hour is important because it shows what appears
to be two individuals that appear to match the description
that was put out earlier today by the NYPD. Take a look at the video
and then pay close attention to the top left corner of your screen.
You're going to see two males wearing masks running.
One is pointing what appears to be possibly a weapon.
At some point they run out of the frame.
The first male drops something,
returns back to pick it up and then both of them take off.
Now, police got a 911 call around 9.30 this morning,
reports of a teenager shot near East 171st Street and Cortona Place.
On scene, officers found 15-year-old Javits Frimpong
with a gunshot wound to his stomach.
They didn't even call an ambulance.
They put him in the back of a squad car.
And rushed him to Saint Barnabas Hospital,
where officials say he later died from his injuries.
Out here in the field, we are hearing reports
that he may have gotten into some sort of fight
or some sort of altercation with some students at school.
That's information police are also trying to vet.
His home address is not very far from where he was shot.
Residents in this area upset
that another young New Yorker has died from gun violence.
There's a lot of violence around here.
I'm not going to sit here and lie to you,
especially with the teenagers, unfortunately.
This is disgusting.
It's got to stop.
A kid got robbed three years ago right there,
right next door.
He was sitting outside.
Do you think there are too many guns on the streets
getting in the hands of...
Yeah, too many, too many, yeah.
That's why that happened,
because there's too much gun in the streets.
As you come back to us live now, police did put out information about
the suspects they were looking for.
They said they were looking for two, possibly three individuals,
young men wearing dark clothing, wearing surgical masks.
Again, appearing to match the description of the video that we saw,
those images that were in there.
However, anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
That number, 1-800-577-TIP.
