Man suffers burns after breaking down door to help loved ones escape Tioga fire

All right, thank you, Bob. 6:32, at least two people were injured in an overnight fire in Tioga. Yeah, let's get to Morgan out there at the scene live with more. Hey, guys, good morning. Yeah, so we know that three people were taken to the hospital. We actually just spoke with one of the guys a few minutes ago. He's actually waiting to be picked up right now. He just got dropped back off. He was sent to the hospital for several burns on his back, burns on his arms. now he tells us that he actually lives on the first floor of this building we're here at the 1500 block of West Erie Avenue he says the fire happened just after 1 30 this morning and you guys can see this is a huge three-story home but there's lots of damage to the building now we do know that at least five people live in this building all together flames they were coming from the second floor and we actually saw people come out of the second floor window They were standing on the roof of the porch waiting to be rescued. And then we did see the man I just told you about, him, his godson, and his godson's mom. They were all being treated. You know, we saw them sitting in the ambulance this morning. Fire marshal was on scene. ATF was also out here. We did see them going through some type of bags that were on the sidewalk investigating how this fire actually started. now people who live here tell us that on camera there was somebody seen walking past the home throwing something at the back door next thing this entire row home building was on fire and the entire back door is burned up and again the man that we just spoke to said he went to the hospital for burns on his back and arms and that was from when he actually had to break through the back door he says at the time of the fire he was on the third floor he smelt smoke didn't think it was normal he knew that his godson and the godson's mom were sleeping on the first floor so that's when he ran down broke through the back door tried to get them out uh the godson's mom actually ran out the back door as well um and so again he was just making sure that everybody was okay so let's take a listen to what he had to say i don't know how it happened i just know i smelled the smoke from the third floor i seen the smoke in the hallway and i rushed down three flights the stairs to get to the door because my godson was on the first floor asleep oh the burns was when i had to break through the back door which was on fire from the outside that's how you got out yeah and then ran around the front and broke this door open so they can get out this door too i ran to the straight down to the door to open the door because he was straight through the house in the in the back room and his mom brought him out and jumped through the door too after i broke it open. So fortunately, everybody is okay. He tells us that his godson and his mom should be back from the hospital shortly as well. So again, hopefully we get some updates. As far as the conditions of the house, Ellen and I did put a sign on the front door that says unsafe structure.
