Well, day 14 of the Naresh Bhat murder trial continues,
and the jury is now seeing the defendant
in his wife's banking transactions.
Fox 5's Stephanie Ramirez joins us live in studio with the latest.
Well, guys, yes, we saw banking transactions
from Mamta Kotli Bhat and Naresh,
but I want to talk about the credit card,
the Chase credit card transactions that the court showed.
We do have some video to show of that today.
The prosecution getting into this here with witnesses,
And in July of 2024, the jury has shown what appears to be some
of the last few Uber trips taken by Mamta Khafli using her credit card.
The last actual Uber transaction recorded on July 27th of 2024.
And after that, the card starts receiving late payment notices.
The jury also heard from several witnesses today,
including those from J.P. Chase Morgan Bank,
Navy Federal Credit Union and Wells Fargo.
The witnesses showing that Naresh Bhat did not have a shared account
with Mamta Kafuli from what the prosecution showed.
Naresh Bhat is on trial for the murder of his wife,
Mamta Kafuli Bhat, back in 2024.
The evidence shown today, Guy,
does seem to match the testimony that the close family friend gave.
She told the jury early on in trial that she helped Mamta open
her bank account in February of 2024
after some kind of dispute that Mamta had
with her husband, Naresh Bhat,
and that it involved possible cheating,
that Mamta Kapli wanted a divorce.
The family friend told the court she
and her husband took Mamta in for multiple weeks during that time.
But really, though, one of the star witnesses came yesterday.
We heard that person yesterday.
That was the Prince William County
Police digital forensics investigator
who not only discussed the multiple concerning
Google searches she focused on Naresh Bhatt's phone,
But she also spoke yesterday about conversations,
the text conversations discovered where the
couple did appear to be arguing or in dispute over their relationship.
The prosecutor and investigator read a conversation,
some of the back and forth in court.
The jury was shown messages that Bhatt had with another,
where he said he wanted a Columbia
girl and is apparently in a discussion
with this other person about this alleged Columbia
girl going through ports of entry.
And then the prosecution showed how Naresh Bhatt had changed
his wife's contact card
on his phone to read bad memory instead of her name.
Now, the defense did push back in several areas.
They made the point that with texts in their Nepali language,
if it's blacked out, then
what's in English could be misinterpreted
or that if it's translated, it may not be
an exact representation of what the message
was supposed to say in their native Nepali
language.
Now, yesterday you had asked me about
how long this was going to go, right?
And we said that the court laid out seven weeks for trial.
Well, we learned yesterday as well that on Monday
the prosecution plans to wrap up their case.
So they're going to hand over the baton to the defense.
And we still don't know at this time if they're planning
to have Naresh Bhatt take the stand.
So that's something we'll be looking to see if that happens.
The jury was let out for the rest of the day.
So the judge right now is in conversations with the prosecutor,
the defense attorneys.
and we'll see everybody again on Monday, yeah well a lot to unpack there
but you are definitely on it
and for more information we encourage you to visit our website as well
