A man kidnapped his estranged wife
in Burleson led police on a high-speed chase and then
killed her, then himself.
The two are parents of young children.
Fox 4's Alex Boye is in Burleson where police briefed the media today.
Alex.
Yeah, we learned from the police chief that the victim had actually
managed to call 911 on her cell phone and left the line open
in the SUV the entire time during that terrifying ride.
We also learned from the chief that this pursuit lasted about 35
minutes, and at points, speeds were in excess of the speed limit.
Of 100 miles per hour,
it came to a deadly conclusion near a small airfield.
Take a look.
Now, this all started around 745 this morning
when someone called 911 to report an armed
man forced a woman into a black SUV
at an apartment complex off West Hidden Creek Parkway.
Burleson police officers spotted the SUV.
The driver would not stop prompting that pursuit.
A neighbor's backyard camera you see there captured part of the chase.
And a Fox 4 viewer
also captured part of the chase on her cell phone video.
You see the SUV drive by and Burleson police officers quickly follow.
That's down Wilshire Boulevard.
Now, officers used spike strips to try and disable the SUV.
A short time later, both people in the SUV would be found dead.
The chief said it was murder-suicide.
Their bodies found inside of the SUV,
which had come to a stop near the Berlin Field Airport.
That's in the city of Crescent.
Here's some of what the chief had to say.
This all occurred out in the parking lot,
the wife drove the nine-year-old child of Luke nine-year-old to school
and was returning back to the parking lot was there.
There is another male that's involved, may have been a boyfriend,
we don't know all the details behind that, that was there.
My understanding was that they were there to have a civil conversation
and it just did not turn out that way.
But he called 9-1-1 and then she was able to call 9-1-1
and then not speak and just leave the phone on.
So several motorists witnessed and recorded part of the chase,
including Dennis Lopez, who narrated what was happening.
Take a listen.
Where is he going to go? He's going to go across the grass. Watch.
Oh, he's stuck now.
Oh, he's coming over here. Look, he's going across the grass.
He's going back on the road.
So we were there as the damaged SUV was towed away from the scene.
The chief said that two guns were found inside of the SUV,
but only one had been fired.
No officers involved in this incident fired their weapons.
During the entire pursuit and I can tell you that the chief says
that the Tarrant County medical examiner's office will
be the one to release the IDs on both the man and the woman.
I can tell you that there are two children ages nine
and 14 were not harmed and now are being cared for by relatives.
Also, the Burleson police chief urging anyone
who may be the victim of domestic violence
to call 911.
You can also call the National Domestic Violence Hotline,
that number there on the bottom of
your screen.
