Our next guest knows a thing or two about hair.
In fact, he knows a lot more than that.
And our next guest always smells really good.
Chaz Dean was just 19 when he started his journey
and changed the hair industry.
Chaz opened the doors to a single bungalow hair studio
in the heart of Hollywood
when working with some of the most familiar faces in Hollywood.
But it was the launch of When Hair
and Body Care that really put Chaz on the map,
solidifying him as a top brand creator.
And who better to give us hair tips than the man himself.
Welcome back. So great to see you.
I know, I feel like it's been so long.
Well, it has been because when we saw you last, you had long hair.
I was that. I was that.
And then this three months ago.
What made you cut your hair so short?
I've wanted to for so long and I haven't had it this short
because I buzzed it like number two buzzer in August.
I haven't had it this way since I was eight or nine years old.
I've wanted to do it and I love that I do.
I feel really free. I really do.
it feels lighter free lighter free i don't have
to think about it it's quick it's easy
yeah i really really love it well it looks great
on you i mean you look great both ways thank you
so now you're talking about scalp and hair health yeah
which is so important these days a lot of
people are worried about you know keeping those follicles in there yep
and it starts at the scalp
again i think you remember i'm vegan
and my garden that i have is incredible and it prospers
because the soil is rich in vitamins
and nutrients your hair grows out of your scalp you want your
scalp to be healthy and it starts at the scalp
so a lot of people ignore that part but once you
start paying attention to the scalp you're like oh okay things
are much better here and then it's
what you do after that that's really important as well
so in addition to that what are some other
mistakes that people are making
when it comes to hurting their hair that maybe they don't think
about they don't even know they're hurting
their hair well mine you know 30 years ago giving up
the lather huge because every time you're
lathering you're stripping it breaking it down
finer thinner weaker they know detergent does
that to their clothes they don't think of it
same way as detergent doing it to their hair
so stop the lathering did that 30 years ago
the other part is and i know what happens
is the hot tools i always say if you want oh god i know
you're like look at the burns i have on my arm okay you answered
my own question if it's gonna burn your skin it's
burning your hair people like oh my hair i just saw someone
that was posting she was doing
a Marilyn Monroe look-alike
and she's burned her forehead with the iron i'm like yeah but your
hair is okay but you burn your skin
if it's burning your skin it's burning your hair
brushes brushes and or just
when you put your hair in a top knot like you could wear your hair out
for a week like this just twist it up
when you put it to bed at night mist it with a replenishing
mist twist it up loosely drop it
and has all those curls you know you put it in a band or curls
it picks up that curl it doesn't take heat
to do it like the mom bun well yeah just a high
twisted top knot and drop in the morning
and voilà gorgeous hair but easier said than done
this scalp is the most important one i get it
because you guys are on air so if you are doing
it yeah turn it down to the lowest heat setting
at least at least start there right yeah start at
the lowest we want to talk about hair loss
because a lot of people on GLP-1s are talking about thinning
hair or losing hair and women especially
also perimenopausal age that's all the rage right now
a lot of people are talking about
so what products can help well i get that every single day i
literally have it in my notes i can show you my phone i just copy
and paste copy and paste because
it's about the scalp health
so it's tea tree eucalyptus rosemary lavender peppermint castor
oil and biotin so those i named all
that i didn't name chemicals did i now i start with nature and
you guys know that when i hear people saying i'm using
this and this and that i won't name them
off but you know what they are all
the chemicals i'm like start with nature if you don't get help
and you need to go outside of that but at least start
with nature where it all starts will the
things you just named contribute
to hair growth yes yeah we have clinicals on it but we can't
claim hair growth because it has to be Nioxin
or minoxidil that because it's a chemical however
fuller thicker stronger healthier hair growth
and you see the results and that's what it's all
about but yeah it's tea tree eucalyptus rosemary
lavender peppermint castor and biotin and in
January i'm coming out with a cleansing conditioner
that we're launching so while you're cleansing
your hair you're actually going to be reinforcing all that as well
which i'm so excited about we've
been working i've been working on it
for over six years we finally landed that plane it took so long
to land we tried with four separate labs didn't land it
but in january we're launching it and
it'll be amazing wow and it's not only women
that are facing this issue men who are experiencing
hair loss and all those chemicals you mentioned
that are the only ways that you can say hair
growth those really affect your body and could have
so many side effects don't use if this don't
touch that don't do around this but otherwise you're okay
no you never hear that about essential
oils botanicals or extracts
so when i hear people i cringe i'm like okay or they'll go and they'll
be told they have to do that i'm like start here
if you need something deeper than and you won't
but if you do then do that but don't start there start
with nature first and i've always been that
guy you know that yeah yeah healthy hair healthy
scalp well you're walking proof of it um yep all
right well we look forward to seeing you again we'll see what
your hair looks like the next time
we meet the last thing i'm going to say is you can add
the botanical tonic in with your leave-in
conditioner and in with your styling cream
so it's working throughout the day as well okay so
add it in with your styling products
and it will really help as well great pro tip thank you follow
