The Dallas Police Department has placed its assistant director of media
relations on leave after a citizen complained about her conduct.
So the complaint centers on Allison Hudson's use
of a police-issued vehicle with lights and sirens.
Fox 4's David Santendry has more
on the police investigation. David.
Well, Heather and Steve, the chief of police is changing course related
to the investigation of his top spokesperson,
but at this point in time, it's not exactly clear why.
Dallas Police Department's top spokesperson,
Allison Hudson, now on administrative leave
just one week after Chief Daniel Como doubled down
on his decision to not place her on leave
amidst a criminal investigation.
The only thing we ever wanted out of anything
is just that everybody is treated the same way
Sean Pease, president of the Dallas Police Association, says some of
his union members believe Hudson was receiving preferential treatment.
We seem to be having these nickel
and dime moments of small things here or there that affect our officers
And Hudson is not a sworn officer.
Hudson regularly conducts interviews
as assistant director of media relations.
In full transparency, Fox 4 reporters maintain
a working relationship with Hudson.
She's under investigation by the agency's public integrity unit
after a citizen complaint filed in August accuses Hudson
of using lights and sirens on a department vehicle,
even though she's not authorized to because she's a civilian employee.
God bless you all.
At a city council meeting last week,
Hudson helped honor a group of students in the department's
Explorer program.
The next day, Pease told Fox 4 he heard complaints about Hudson working
while under investigation.
I literally have members.
That have been put on administrative leave within three hours
of a misdemeanor related
version of exactly what we're talking about here.
From what I understand,
what the complaint was involves a felony level offense.
Last week, Chief Como said it is not department practice to place an
employee on administrative leave solely because a complaint was made
But now the department says Assistant Director Hudson has been placed
on administrative leave consistent with department policy
and prior actions taken by Chief Como.
There is no other information available regarding
the open investigation.
Just everybody should be treated fairly and the same
Pease says he is not certain about specific details
of the department's criminal investigation
into Hudson. Other than the rumor mill and hearsay,
and that's not for me to comment on
And the department has not answered Fox 4's question
did new evidence lead to administrative
leave or was policy not followed to begin with?
It just needs to be fair with everybody.
I did reach out directly to Hudson
when we first became aware of these allegations,
but at this point in time, we still have not received a statement.
