James Kaufman, World News Report Today. UK man arrested and harassed for months after posting a pic with a gun while in Florida. John Booth posed with or may have even shot a shotgun while he was in Florida. Yes, here in the U.S. He was then arrested repeatedly and harassed by local police for over 13 months after returning from his trip to America. John Booth, a 55-year-old IT contractor, has uploaded a picture of himself holding a firearm at a Florida homestead on August 13th, which should have been nothing more than a LinkedIn holiday snap, instead triggered a 13-week-long saga, starting with officers turning up at his home to warn him about how online content may affect people's feelings. After offering them proof the photos were taken in America, police went ahead and arrested him on August 24th. Even after all charges were dropped, officers came back to his house after 10 p.m. that very night and arrested him again. Bail paperwork accused him of having guns to quote-unquote frighten people. And of stalking because he had posted a picture of a property online. One LinkedIn post had nothing to do with the other. In the weeks that followed, officers returned to his home three more times. In October, he was arrested again for a third time for supposedly breaching bail conditions. Prosecutors then tried pursuing him over a separate social media post alleging a public order offense. He was due in Bradford Magistrate's Court on November 25th, but that case was withdrawn. Since the police seized all of his electronic devices, Mr. Boo says his IT career was brought to a halt. Quote, I've been put through 13 weeks of hell, he told the Yorkshire Post. When do we go from a society where you can have a discussion with somebody and go, you know what, I don't like your opinion. I'm going to disagree with you, but I'm not going to tell you why. I'm going to call the police instead. I'll be filing a case against the police, he added. I'll be seeking quite a lot of damages. West Yorkshire Police, the real criminals, declined to comment, saying, quote, it wouldn't be appropriate to comment while a formal complaint may be underway. Cases drawn attention from Elon Musk, who said it was further evidence of why America needs to always uphold the Second Amendment. God bless America.
