James Kaufman, World News Report today.
U.S. troops invade Mexico via Gulf of American Beach.
Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like the Pentagon
and the Department of War
made a huge mistake posting signs on a Mexican beach.
And they thought they were posting signs
on a far southeastern U.S. beach,
right where the actual real Grande comes out into the ocean itself.
So it looks like they've made a mistake.
American troops have pulled up on a Mexican beach
in a dramatic escalation of tensions
after Donald Trump threatened to bomb the country.
Although again, I think it was a mistake.
U.S. contractors arrived by boat on Monday at Playa Bagdad,
driving signs into the sand near where
the Rio Grande empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
Alarm witnesses quickly alerted Mexican officials
and the heavily armed Mexican security personnel.
The Marines rushed to the scene in trucks
with mounted machine guns in a terrifying standoff.
The Pentagon, in a deeply embarrassing statement,
admitted that its troops were mistaken when they landed on the beach.
Mexican personnel watched as the Americans drove six signs
into the ground, which had
warning, restricted area, written in English and Spanish.
They claimed that the beach was the property
of the U.S. Department of Defense and had
been declared restricted by the U.S. command.
They also said that unauthorized access
for photography was not allowed in the area and
that if you are found here, you may be detained and searched.
Mexico's foreign affairs minister said
its navy has removed all the signs from the sand,
which it believes were actually in Mexican territory.
I'm afraid that the Pentagon has admitted their mistake.
So it's not what everyone has made it out to be.
The Pentagon claims it was a simple error,
which is pretty hard to believe.
But with America the way it is, I guess anything is believable.
God bless, folks. Crazy.
