The enemy thus, firstly, sought to encircle the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration from the north, bypassing Liman. Secondly, the remaining Russian forces were to attack the Ukrainian Armed Forces through Dobropillia, then continue on to Barvinkove, encircling the Donetsk region.
Biletsky emphasized that capturing the Donetsk region was Russia's top priority, not only militarily but also politically. As is well known, the enemy formed the "Svyatogorsk salient" in September, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces responded quickly, counterattacking from the Limansk direction, cutting off logistical routes, and completely eliminating the new threat by October 14.
