Welcome back! Today we're diving into a fun and easy project,
the petite bobble crochet cowl.
This cowl is perfect for any skill level,
I can't say the word level, even if you're a beginner.
This pattern is designed to be quick and easy to make.
It uses just about 200 yards of bulky yarn
and a 6.5 millimeter hook.
One of the best parts of this pattern is how it looks in different
colors. Choose a shade that fits your style
or make a few for friends and family in their
favorite colors. Find some yarn ideas linked in the description below.
And if you like free patterns, reviews,
and all things knit and crochet, be sure to hit the like,
subscribe, notification bell so you never miss out
when these are released. So this pattern
will be using bobble stitches to create this beautiful texture.
Don't worry if you're new
to these stitches, I'll walk you through how to make these.
Be sure to use the link in the
description to go download the pattern to follow along
and we'll get started now.
So we're going to start the project with a chain of 70
and I'm almost complete here. Then we're
going to form it into a ring with a slip stitch.
Make sure your chains are all facing the same
direction. You don't want a Möbius cowl,
which I do have a free pattern for because that's actually
a very fun project, so check out that link.
But we'll make sure they're all facing the same way
and you have two choices. You can either join in the back loop,
which is what I'm inserting my hook
Or you can flip it over and work into the bottom
bump if you want a very neat edge when you start your first round.
Either or. I'm going to go ahead and just go with
the back loop. So we'll yarn over, pull that through,
pull through the first or the very last chain,
And join that ring.
Then from there,
we are going to do a chain one and we're going to single crochet into
every chain around so that we get 70 total stitches.
So working through either the back loop or the bottom bump,
depending on if you are trying
to give it a nice edge, which I am attempting to do here.
It's a little bit extra work, but.
It really gives it a nice finished edge for your project
so that both ends will look the same.
Take that little bit of extra time if you want it to be
especially nice, but keep single crocheting
around until you get to the end.
Okay, here we are almost at the end of round one,
finishing off all of those single crochets.
Double check, make sure you're not twisted
or anything before you go to join that
Round with your slip stitch so that you can move on to the next round
when everything looks good.
You're going to do a slip stitch
in that very first single crochet that you made. This is
important on this next step when we do round two.
We're going to make sure we work into that same
exact single crochet that we just joined
with and that's going to keep our seam straight.
Now we are ready to make our first bobble.
So we are going to yarn over,
insert our hook in the next stitch, do the beginning of a
double crochet.
So we're going to pull through the first two loops.
We're going to be doing that five times.
So we're creating five, kind of a DC five together in one stitch.
So you'll see I yarn over
and I pull through the first two loops for each of those stitches.
Here I am with the fifth and final.
You should have six loops on your hook. We are going to
finish that off with a yarn over
and we're going to pull through all the loops. Then our next stitch
will be a single crochet
and that is going to push that bobble down and create the bobble.
You'll notice that the bobble is on the wrong side of the work.
Don't worry, we are just going
to flip this guy inside out once we are complete
and then everything will be on the right side
of our project, or really the wrong side, but that's what we want.
We want those bobbles
facing out, not in, so we will just flip the project inside out,
which is easy with this cowl.
So the entire pattern is going to be single crochets
and bobbles that will alternate each
row. You'll follow along with the pattern to make those bobbles,
but they are very simple as you can
see, and very soon you will have your completed bobble cowl
with all of its textured goodness.
As you can see, the bobbles add a lot of character to the cowl.
They're fun to crochet and really make a finished piece stand out.
This is a great weekend project to have something for a loved one
or just yourself before the weather gets chilly.
