Warning for parents ahead
of Halloween after New Jersey official seized colorful methamphetamine
that could be mistaken for candy.
Chief investigative correspondent Aaron
Katurski is here with the details.
Good morning, Aaron.
Good morning, Michael.
It's a timely one for sure.
The discovery of drugs disguised
as candy has police reminding parents to inspect Halloween
treats.
Just last month, authorities
in New Jersey said they seized tablets marketed as ecstasy
that tested positive for methamphetamine
and that could be mistaken for something harmless.
Because some of the tablets were pressed into the shapes
of cartoon characters or stamped with popular insignias.
Others were dyed in bright colors to resemble vitamins or candy.
In a report obtained by ABC News, New Jersey State Police said it could
be difficult for children or parents to tell the difference.
So with Halloween approaching, the state police said
the presence of illicit drugs designed to resemble candy
or vitamins creates a heightened concern for accidental exposure.
The authorities are urging parents
this morning to inspect treats for...
Misspelled brand names, unbranded packaging,
or anything unusual or unwrapped.
Rebecca.
All right.
You got to go through it.
It's not the most fun thing to do as a parent or a kid,
but you got to check the candy over
before you start eating it.
Thank you, Aaron.
