I'm installing my favorite brand air conditioner. Yes I'm good friends with the people over there, but it really is my favorite air conditioner my favorite style the inverter style heat pumps I like them and today I decided to save a little money and try to do this myself come with me.
Hey guys, we are here today doing a mini split install from scratch
and basically that right
there
our power wire
is all we've got.
So come with me.
Y'all see this? We
are installing
a two
ton one head mini split today. I'm looking forward to it.
I got a little bit of help with me today
and it's really all I got to do.
The only thing we have prepped for us already
There's a power wire sticking out the wall.
Okay, so this is everything that was sent in this package.
I bought one of the Essentials mini split packages.
And I'm looking to see what comes with it.
We got our cable.
I guess we can use it as drain, but not my preference.
Oh, man, this is heavy.
They also sent me a line set.
I got a sleeve, a whip, and a disconnect.
How about that?
We're doing better.
I did bring the stuff for the...
Disconnect, let's see what this is,
oh hold on a sec,
oh this is a surge protector, that
is real nice like, I kind of like that.
First thing we
need to do is
get this air
handler
mounted, hope
that there's
something
in here, here it is, alright that is what
I'm looking for, pipe hole, they're saying
three and a half inches,
that's rather large,
as you see, that three
and a half inches is
large, two and a half or maybe two is more appropriate.
So we're going to measure this and see what size hole saw we need.
I got this, what's left of a hole saw kit.
Let me see if I can make this work.
Okay, something I just noticed
is that my hole saw actually fits inside that.
So that is a two and three quarters.
I think I have one size
bigger and that's this one.
That's a three.
It's
been used
before.
It looks like the blades are still good though.
I'm getting all my stuff together to get
this thing mounted on the wall and try to get a hole
in the wall and as you know I need this plate right here
and there's a screw holding it in
end you got to get this plate off screw
the plate to the wall in the right spot
and um so we mount
this on the wall and that tells us where
to put excuse me like
this that tells us exactly where
Our hole for the line setter.
So let's go ahead and get this on the wall try
to get it centered where we want it
and level and then we can use this to measure where to put the hole.
I measured from here to
here divided it by two and got that right there
that is my center this mark in the wall. Okay that
mark I made I sunk a screw
in it right there in the middle.
I just want to level this up
Just think one more.
All right, that's just in the wall.
It's just in the drywall.
Okay, because that is
the case, mark that.
Okay, well, let's mark this one.
We're gonna have a stud.
We're gonna screw
into a stud
right here.
We got some work to do.
These
supports
just
might
be
enough
to hold up that air handler,
but we're gonna anchor it to that two by four,
so the two by four holds the weight.
And these right here just kinda
hold it steady and in place.
We're gonna get
that started a little bit.
Honestly, that can probably hold up
a mini split.
but we're this is right here is where we found the two by four
so i'm gonna try to sink me some
screws right here i'm gonna see
if this is gonna work this one started
to sink finally maybe i can
sink another one and another one a little i gotta say
that little stud finder didn't help me much
okay one thing i use this for is to find my center mark on this hole
and from here to my center mark is like four
and a quarter inches and then from the bottom
I'm at one and three quarter.
One last thing I'm measuring right here is where my stud is.
And that is 14, almost 14 inches away from the stud.
So it should be good.
You know what they say, measure twice, cut once.
First measure,
second measure, angle it
a little bit down, can.
So it's good to have
a bit that has like
a impact connection on it.
So you can have an extension.
So what I want to do is aim for dead central.
with a little bit of a downward angle
and just drill a hole
and as you can see we can see that outside
and we can drill our other hole
we are outside right where
this condenser is going to hang
or we might put it on a pad
and here's my if y'all can see that there's my hole
and that is really grabbing i'm gonna put
that on high speed
a little bit out
of an angle this
is what i wanted
this is my view
all right
so i'm gonna pull this what
i'm gonna show you
is how to bend this properly.
this is the line set and this is the drain obviously we want
that to come straight out
so the way
to bend it
is slowly turn
it okay you want
your drain to
be on the bottom
if you can
okay those little stands help out tremendously
that's acting like it's catching on something
there we go honestly because i tried
to use this sleeve right here that kind of
complicated things for me
because i wanted to go at an angle okay that looks good to me
i'm about 15 and a half inches
a little bit more still level so
that line set is going to come down
over and then down into the condenser over here
getting there i didn't have my hand truck so we
had to carry this over here that is a nice looking piece
of equipment this is the cable that was sent
with it yes it's easier if you go ahead and
connect this cable before you do this so that
y'all might know there's a little hole right there just
for that it makes it nice and easy for you
Alright, these are the color
of the wires that they gave me.
I think I'm going to make my blue my ground power
and communication. So black, red, orange, and then blue.
I'm going to go about hooking those up.
I'm putting a little bit of fog on that.
Nice and gooey stuff all around that edge of the flare.
I do not put it on the threads.
I always start these by hand.
Okay, according to the manual,
a 5.8 line gets 57 to 71 newton meters.
All right, let's just set this to, all right, we're on newton meters.
What do you say we go to 65?
There
we go.
Almost.
Get
to
the
point
where
I can
see
this
thing
hit
red.
Actually better from closer
to the other wrench.
Still
not there.
Holy smokes.
I don't know about you, but something don't look right about that.
Y'all see what I'm talking about?
I'm going to pull it apart because I don't like the way it looks.
If y'all can see that, that flare is not straight.
I gave myself all day to do this job,
and it's a good thing because I'm going to need it.
Once again, I have an impeccable flare.
Uh-oh.
Do I have too much?
Y'all know
what I'm
thinking.
I'm this close to cutting all this and just soldering it together.
What's
going
to have
to do?
There we go.
i don't want it to go too far. there we go just like that.
all right it looks like i
got two bars on my battery
so i should at least make
it through the day. oh no did i just do my what i said i'm
not supposed to do? i did. i don't care how good that flare is i
gotta cut it off. i told you you gotta put that nut on
first not like you can put it on afterwards
and i just made that mistake.
i'm
getting
really
close. all
right we
are we
got five
eighths
here.
there we go. you know
that battery just doesn't seem like it has a lot of power.
I'm struggling at the end.
I have talked to Milwaukee about developing a tool like this for
their 12 volt line.
That would be sweet.
Straighten all
this other stuff out in a minute.
I gotta get
this started though.
I think I got it.
Yep. Got it started
as a relief. Okay.
I'm set on 55 and
somehow now I'm
on 29.
57 is in range
and close.
I think I can
pressure test
and start
to pull a vacuum
I have
the proper flare tool somewhere i think i
left it in my van i want to get this get this out
because
we have one schrader port here i kind
of need to pull a vacuum
and through my manifold that makes
it a little bit difficult but i understand why
the metering device basically is in here all right let
me find that valve core removal tool
and maybe a diet pepsi i had a little bit of nitrogen left
I'm up to 120, 22 psi. Let me turn off my nitrogen here
for those of you who say show it or it didn't
happen. There's my nitrogen.
All right we're going to hit test tightness.
Timer has started. I'm at
124.8. I do not have a temperature sensor plugged into the back
so it can't do that little calculation
thing. To start it you just hit enter so timer starts
and then it starts measuring how much
much it drops. In the meantime I'm going to bubble search.
I'm thinking about using something else for the drain here.
I
think
that's
good.
Let's check the other ones.
You see the sprayer puts bubbles on it sometimes.
So it's hard to see if it's bubbling.
I got my vacuum started.
Open that up.
Open this up.
Let's see if we get into microns quickly.
It's going to be slower because I'm pulling through two Schrader cores.
I'm already down to 29.9.
Let's work
on the electrical.
let me see we got one two three l1 and l2 all
right one two and three are black red and orange
i'm down
to 225 microns
and i have not
this has not timed
off yet you'll know
i'm trying to leave
space somewhere
for a surge protector
little thing looks
like it could go over
here real easily we're
gonna have one of our power wires go
here and one of our surge protector
wires these things never
startup amps
like a PSC a normal single speed compressor so
they're much less likely to burn these connections
you still want to make
a good connection though
and it was like a mess
on it right now that's off
now we
can
focus
over
here i'm
doing
hey
let's
hook up
these
last
connectors
we're
under
300
i'm gonna do this ground
first i have been advised
by some of my viewers
that ain't gonna work
to use i'm gonna
show you maybe
something all right
That will go through,
but I don't think that number 10 is going to do so good.
So that number 10
ain't going to go
in that little thing,
that blue one.
So the advice is put you a little ring
on there, bring it under here.
It's better than trying
to wrap the wires around.
Actually,
that's fine
like that.
And these last two go right here and here.
And it don't matter which one goes where.
I'm trying to give myself a little extra room here.
This
is a
bigger
wire.
Number 10 is actually much bigger than what we need.
But it's a very common supply to have.
Better to have too big of a wire than too small.
Well, I think that'll do.
Alright, if y'all see that,
I have, I don't know if you
can see, about 244 microns.
I'm going to isolate it from the vacuum pump.
I'm watching
those microns
open it back up.
It may have been loose, actually.
I'm going to isolate that again.
See where it goes.
I'm at about 600 microns right now.
20...
it is leveling out. release
the freon. keep your fingers
crossed. make sure they're both open now.
i was looking for some of that white wrap
that people put around line sets to cover all of this.
i think i'm just going to get another piece
of line set cover. i kind of think this might get
in my way.
i think
i just
moved
the
condenser.
okay
according
to our
electrician
our wire
is
It's just kind of stuck in here.
And there it is. There's our breaker. That's a 20 amp.
That should be fine for this.
