26.2 miles, one big challenge, and a cause that hits close to home.
Arnavutarek's getting ready to run his first New York City Marathon,
but he's not just running for the finish line.
He's raising money and awareness for people living with brain injuries.
I'm doing it for a really good cause
in the Brain Injury Association of New York State.
They raise money and raise awareness for people
who had traumatic brain injury in the past.
For Butara, the cause is personal.
He's seen the impact of brain injuries in people close to him,
including his fiancée.
I've seen people go through traumatic brain injury.
Through playing soccer when I was younger,
in middle school and high school,
and as well as my fiancé who had a traumatic brain injury.
That experience also inspired his interest in research,
including how heading the ball in soccer could affect children's brain.
I think it's an underdiagnosed disease in especially young children.
And I would be happy to raise awareness for it.
After 20 weeks of training, he's ready to put the work to the test
in hopes it inspires others to find a cause they believe in.
You have to raise at least $3,500
for each participant in this specific organization.
And then the run is kind of a celebration of that fundraising effort.
For Butara, every mile is a chance to make a difference.
