Welcome back, everyone, to Fox 5 News at Noon.
We're officially one day out from Election Day.
It's pretty much here.
Candidates are making their final appeals
to voters all across the state.
And Fox 5's Deidre Duke spoke to Secretary
of State Brad Raffensperger on Election's Eve.
Good afternoon, Deidre. What did he tell you?
Good afternoon, Alex, and we have to tell you,
he held a news conference in front of a packed
room of reporters, some coming from other parts of the world.
That is just how much interest there
is in Georgia's elections this go-round.
He did tell us that we saw record-breaking turnout during
the early election period,
with over 2.8 million Georgians having cast
their ballots during early voting.
And they do anticipate another big rush of people to come
and cast their votes in person tomorrow.
Now, he asked the Secretary
of State how prepared Georgia is for tomorrow's election
and whether there are any concerns heading into Election Day,
what election officials are expecting in terms of turnout.
And with several closely watched statewide races on the ballot,
attention will turn to how quickly votes are counted
and results are reported tomorrow night.
Now, Raffensperger also addressed
when Georgians can expect to see those results,
what could potentially delay the process,
and he assured Georgians every effort
is being made to ensure safe, secure elections.
And we understand that there'll be independent observers,
not just the Republican and Democratic Party observers,
but there'll be the Carter Center,
and we understand the DOJ will have their observers.
And there'll be other organizations
and individuals that'll be out there observing that.
We have a process for that, and we love transparency.
And the polls do open bright and early tomorrow morning at 7 a.m.
And that's the latest here at the State Capitol.
Deidre Dukes, Fox 5 News.
Deidre, thank you.
