Danny Sprinkle on Calling on Transfers
Nov 3, 2026
Coach, you got a lot older with guys like Beasley and Comer
who are really experienced and seasoned, and setting the standard here,
you can kind of tell, what was your approach to attacking
the transfer portal, and what did you look for in guys
that you wanted to pluck out and bring to Washington?
Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know,
when Zoom left, like, we needed a point guard.
You know, when Zoom and JJ left, like, we had to get one.
Yeah,
Obviously, we'd known or seen him a lot even when he was a freshman,
sophomore in high school because he was dynamic in high school,
that's
and he was dynamic in San Francisco.
Obviously, I know Coach Girdlyson in San Francisco.
Their staff just spoke so highly of him from the type of kid he is,
a
good
the energy he brings to practice, his basketball IQ,
his ability to make players better.
And so.
one.
So we were very fortunate to get him and then obviously Tayshaun.
You know, knowing Coach Olford from the Mountain West,
and Steve Olford's one of the best college basketball players ever,
and he was like, you're going to love the kid.
He's like, he's a winner.
He's unselfish.
He doesn't care if he scores 15, he doesn't care if he scores 5.
He's going to do what it takes to win the basketball game,
and he's got a really good feel.
You can tell he grew up in Indiana.
The kid just knows how to play basketball.
Is that something you use in the Transfer Portal,
like leads from other coaches to flag players you want to pick out?
Yeah, I wouldn't say leads, but we follow up with coaches.
A lot of coaches, they don't call and check on kids.
I don't know why they don't,
but it's like if we're going to take somebody,
at least I'm going to make calls to their head coach
and find out who the kid really is.
Thank
It's important, especially at this level.
you.
