And Governor Katie Hobbs trying to serve another term.
She's running against Congressman Andy Biggs.
And also for the first time ever,
Arizona will have a lieutenant governor on the ballot.
Fox 10's Nicole Christine covering Governor Hobbs' re-election bid.
Well, good afternoon, Mark and Ellen.
We're here at the peak in Phoenix.
This is where a lot of the prominent Democratic candidates,
including Governor Katie Hobbs,
will be later tonight watching those election results.
Come in, this all kicks off at 7 o'clock when polls close.
Of course, we're expecting those results,
the first drop at least, to come within the hour after.
Now, this is Video Hobbs and her running mate, Mayor John Giles,
out of Mesa, out canvassing in Phoenix and Scottsdale today.
Hobbs knows firsthand the importance of every vote
as she defeated Republican candidate Carrie Lake
in 2022 by less than one percentage point.
In this reelection bid, Hobbs' campaign has spent over $17 million.
That's $12 million more than her opponent, Congressman Andy Biggs.
And as you mentioned before,
Giles could serve as Arizona's first lieutenant governor if the
Democrats are victorious in this race.
Hobbs has declined to comment on specifics of what she'd
like to see done with this role.
But Senator J.D. Mesnard, who penned the legislation creating the
role back in 2022, told Fox 10 in an interview
in June he believes the role will be highly visible
and will act as a mouthpiece for the head of state.
We spoke with Charlene Fernandez,
chairwoman for the Arizona Democratic Party tonight.
Here's what she expects if Mayor
Governor Giles takes on that role.
Judging by his personality,
it's going to be about talking to people, listening to people,
going out into those small rural counties
that we have long forgotten and making sure
that we're listening to them
and bringing needed resources to those areas.
And the latest from Noble Predictive Insights does show
a six percentage point lead for
Governor Hobbs over Congressman Andy Biggs,
but we will be here throughout the entire
night as those election results come
in and we will hear more about this Lieutenant Governor
role and more from Charlene Fernandez coming up at six o'clock.
For now, live in Phoenix, Nicole Christine, Fox 10 News.
