Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe San Diego Padres secured a series victory against the New York Yankees, highlighted by a strong performance from Michael King and a rare streak of three consecutive home runs. While the win is a positive result, the host expresses concerns regarding inconsistent hitting and defensive lapses that could hinder the team in the long run.
The Padres still have some life in them as they
were able to take down a very good team
thanks to these crazy performances.
What happened?
Can they keep it up?
Was today a good game or just a lucky game?
Let's talk about it.
Hi, welcome back to another episode
of Padres Digest with your host, Andrew.
Today was a good day because we beat the Yankees.
Thank God for that.
Uh, sorry for no video yesterday,
of course I was at the game yesterday and I was miserable,
but now I can be happy that at least we won the series.
Uh, wow. So obviously right off the bat,
nice to see some slug, uh, but also off the bat,
I still want us to hit better.
I mean, yeah, home runs are obviously really good,
uh, and it's nice to hit home runs, uh,
but I'll get into it in a sec, but I still like,
I still feel like there's still problems
with this team that need to be fixed. A win to win.
And who cares, right?

But thank God we beat the Yankees, right?
I don't want to say I didn't expect us to win this series,
but I would have not been surprised if we didn't win the series.
You know what I mean?
Like the first game, I don't want to say it was luck,
but maybe a little bit.
Second game just sucked. We sucked.
Third game, this game felt more like we actually deserve to win.
But there was definitely opportunities where we could have lost it,
so I'm glad that we didn't.
Does that make sense? Like, Morejon almost blew us the game.
Like Morejon, but not a great outing for him. We'll get into it.
King had, what, bases loaded? Almost a grand slam.
Which is cool. I'm glad we can have faith in Michael King.
I did just see that he's now had six straight...
Uh, saw, uh.
Why did I forget the term for it?
Quality outings.
Quality starts.
Six straight quality starts, which is incredible.
I'll have a graphic up.
I guess I can probably just show you guys now.
You know how I like making my Padres graphics.
Oop, I didn't download it yet.
Okay, give me a sec.
Okay, sorry.
So, I did show you that.
Uh, the King has returned last seven starts,
1.90 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 35 strikeouts.
Uh, yeah, he's looking pretty good.
This part does not look great, but that's
also kind of the Padres fault, uh, the offense
at least, but he has looked like the Michael King.
We know he can be, he has deserved that crown,
but love, love, love seeing that from him.
Six innings pitched, four hits, no earned runs, uh, no runs.
I want to fix that.
And I feel like we can do more of that,
but still a very, very solid outing.
I mean, again, strikes weren't amazing.
I mean, you can see how kind of wild he could be against lefties,
which, of course, is mostly the Yankees.
But changeup wasn't hit very hard, was chased pretty well.
Stuff was fine.
Sinker was hit kind of hard,
but some good whiff on that around average or was average.
Wasn't hit.
Softly, but not very hardly, but still 102.
Sweeper, very good.
Was not whiffed or chased, but still not good contact.
Slider, kind of the opposite.
Was not hit, but very good whiff on that.
So overall, stuff of 101.
Command wasn't incredible.
Chase wasn't incredible.
Like the whiff, he wasn't getting that many people to miss.
Again, because of three strikeouts, but you know.
No one really scored, so
who cares? Am I right?
Has he had better days? Obviously, but he's had
better technical days
where his stuff looks really good and he
loses or gives up runs.
But this is one where he was a lot better.
Okay, sorry. I got called away for a second.
I forgot what I was saying,
but I'm pretty sure it was just that he's had better
technical days where his pitches look a lot better
and he's given up runs.
So.
Again, I would prefer a win and no runs
and a not great technical pitching day
rather than a great technical pitching day,
but we lose.
You know what I mean?
So again, love Michael King.
I don't think he's as good as he was in 2024,
but I cannot deny these results.
Yes, he's had horrible games.
Yes, he's had amazing games,
but I'll take this literally every single day of the year.
I'll take this.
Absolutely, I will.
So love that.
More home though.
Yeah.
Not great. I mean, it wasn't a horrible strike percentage,
but you can't give up a walk.
You can't give up three hits.
Yeah, there was some bad bat pip. That being said, the minute
I saw him try to make that play with a little bloop
and throwing it the first, I knew of 100%
certainty that he was going to throw it away.
And what happened? He threw it away. Now,
if it wasn't for Camposano throwing out
the runner at second on the stolen base attempt,
I would have been more upset that we had Morohono on a longer leash
and we didn't pull him for Miller right away.
But apparently, Camposano is now, like, on fire
and really good at his job.
So, you know, no complaints.
Again, baseball's a team sport, it's a team effort.
But, you know, he just has to be a lot better.
Stuff is obviously amazing, right?
But he just needs...
Like, I don't know if it's a matter of need to do better.
I just think he's had a...
I think he's just had a bad game.
But, I know, I do want you to fix this a little bit,
and I do want you to learn how to take
basic ground balls and throw it the first base.
Not just Morohono, literally everyone on the team,
everyone, needs to learn how to throw the ball better first.
I mean, pitcher-wise.
I mean, we saw Casey Mize, like, I don't know, a week ago.
That was horrible.
But yeah, love you, Morohono,
but just don't have any of these kind of games
in the playoffs or something.
Hitting-wise, though, it was good,
Like, here?
And then it was pretty bad until here, and then we won.
So, cool, right?
I mean, three straight home runs.
You don't see that every day.
I don't even know the last time we had three straight home runs.
I know it said on the graphic,
and I forgot what it said, but it's been a while, right?
And then everyone else is kind
of okay besides Camposano, who's literally the GOAT.
Dustin Harris, the triple, that was pretty funny.
But everyone else is kind of eh.
Ethan Salas, again, he has some growing pains.
It is week one.
This is what, like his third game?
Like, six at-bat.
Like, give him some time.
I don't want to see anyone dogpile on Ethan Salas in the comments,
or I will come after you.
But, you know, could have today been better, obviously.
I mean, 0 for 3, but only three runners
in scoring position in general isn't amazing.
So, you know what?
I guess we won.
We won.
I still think the problems that we have right now
are still going to hurt us in the long run
if we don't clean it up.
Like, I'm not talking about, like, just hitting,
but, like, pitching needs to get cleaned up a little bit,
like, bullpen especially.
Like, more home needs to be cleaned up a little bit.
Hitting needs to score runners
without just relying on three straight home runs
and four home runs in total.
Because our entire score was four home runs.
Again, home runs are great.
But, we're not going to be able to hit four
home runs every game for the rest of the year.
You know what I mean?
So, yeah.
I'm not trying to be negative.
Like, obviously, we just beat the Yankees in a series.
Like, that's very good.
But, we're still back in third place.
So, let's beat the Nationals.
I don't remember who the Diamondbacks are playing next.
I'm sure I could tell.
Let's see.
So, tomorrow...
D-backs are playing the Royals. Ooh, okay.
Well, we'll see. Nationals, very good offense,
if you remember. But everything else is kind of eh.
Padres, Randy Vasquez, who's been pretty
good recently. So I guess we'll see. I guess we'll see.
But yeah, I think that's pretty much
all I wanted to talk about today.
I mean, I guess I could show you where I put this if you wanted
to see it, but we got it covered. But yeah.
So let me know what you guys think about today.
Do you think that today was a good game?
Overall, or do you think there's still some issues you want
to address but you're happy you won?
Or do you think that it's a bad game and we should have played better?
Yes, we won, but we still should have played better.
Let me know how you feel about that.
And how do you feel about Morahone?
Do you think Morahone actually has a problem
or just a bad unlucky game?
Let me know.
And yeah, I think that's it.
