What's going on with the machines?
I'm taking the ballot.
Oh, are they going to be able to fix them?
Hi. I'm sorry.
Are they going to be able to fix the machines?
Oh, we ain't got nothing to do with that.
What's the number for the election?
995-5700.
So, what did they say to you? I mean...
They didn't send somebody.
So they're going to fix every machine and every voting place?
Yeah, they ain't got no choice.
In one day?
How did you find out about it?
I called the board of elections.
Oh, and how did you find out they weren't working?
I called the board of elections.
Oh, but somebody must have come and tried to use it and it didn't work.
Okay. All right. Thank you so much.
Hi, everybody. We're here at a polling site
in Ossining. We've been made aware.
From the Westchester County Board of Elections,
there's an issue with the scanners
county-wide. It has to do with the thickness of the ballot paper.
Rest assured, every ballot will be counted.
That's a commitment from the State Board of
Elections and the County Board of Elections.
They will be able to scan ballots later.
Your vote matters. Your vote will be counted and protected,
so please keep coming out to the polls.
The situation is under control,
but we're encouraging all our voters to come out to
the polls and continue to vote.
We're not saying come back later. The Board of Elections
has been working to fix this issue
while at the same time allowing people to vote.
Voters at the polling locations today will fill out their ballot
as they would normally would.
They come in and get a ballot, make sure they're registered,
they sign in, they get a paper ballot, they go,
they do their vote, and then when they get to
the scanner, they'll be directed by the poll inspector to do something.
Sometimes that's to put it into an orange bag.
The ones that go into the orange
Are they going to be counted on site at those polling sites,
or are they going to go somewhere else?
Right now, that is with the Board of Elections, the state,
and the county Board of Elections folks are determining.
Because right now, the law is that those ballots
are considered emergency ballots.
So those emergency ballots, if they don't go in the machine,
they are automatically termed as emergency ballots,
and they can't be counted by law until after 9 o'clock at night.
And certainly because of the activity
that we had in the elections this year,
There's just a tremendous number of
of people that are voting, which is a great thing.
So the Board of Elections is trying to
determine whether or not the centralized opportunity
is better than people having
that on site. As we all know,
the election results on an evening are always unofficial
for just that reason. So we don't have that determination.
They will tell us what they're doing.
Is there any sense how many people have to vote that way so far?
This morning, at about midday,
I heard that there were 57,000 votes that had occurred.
So maybe that was the 11 o'clock number.
So 57,000 people had voted.
For early voting comparison, for the nine days,
we had 120,000 people vote in early voting.
So that was about 28% of the vote.
At that time, it's going to continue to move more
in that direction with a huge number
of people that want to participate in initiatives.
