Crossing over state lines now,
checking in on the New Hampshire Senate race.
Democratic Congressman Chris Pappas securing
a victory very early on tonight over Republican John Sununu.
58% of the vote, Sununu conceding
this one before the race was even called.
Let's check in now.
Boston 25's Shana Ferreira live in Manchester,
New Hampshire with the Chris Pappas headquarters.
He's already spoken to his supporters tonight.
Yeah, that's exactly right, and of course,
history made here in New Hampshire, Representative Chris Pappas.
Winning a very critical seat for Democrats
in the battle for Senate control.
He also broke a barrier tonight,
becoming the first openly gay man to win a U.S. Senate seat.
As you mentioned, he took the stage less than
an hour ago with his husband, hand in hand,
thanking his supporters, saying that this victory represents
what he calls a course correction for Washington.
He even went on to thank his Republican challenger,
John Sununu, for his service,
encouraged his supporters to be thankful
for his service as well to our country.
He mentioned so much about
about what this campaign looked like for him
and of course for his family
and what he wanted to accomplish,
which was simply, according to him,
to make a difference in Washington
for Granite State families here.
And so he has really talked about
what that would look like in the future.
He mentioned the fact that it's all about affordability,
access to healthcare, the childcare,
of all the things that he really campaigned on
that at that point we understand that
Obviously resonated with voters, and so,
of course, Sununu did concede, as you mentioned,
and now he says the work continues.
The work is really just getting started, rather, for him,
and this is what he had to say along with his husband,
again, standing hand in hand.
Tonight, I am honored beyond words to have earned
your votes to fight for you in the United States Senate.
Voters in New Hampshire and all across the country simply
have had enough and are demanding a change in direction.
And I am ready to fight with everything I've got
to deliver the change that we need.
Now, one of the things that he has mentioned as well,
Representative Chris Pappas, he mentioned
the fact that he's looking forward
to bringing more accountability to the executive branch,
namely the Trump administration.
And so he says that work starts now,
especially as all eyes are on many of these Senate seats
looking to flip the Senate at this point.
So certainly all eyes on New Hampshire,
a very critical race for Democrats and certainly
Republicans watching very closely, too,
but certainly a big victory here for Democrats.
New Hampshire.
An exciting night in Manchester, New Hampshire for the Pappas campaign.
Shana, thank you.
