Hi, it's Deja from CrochetEverAfter.com and I'm going
to show you how to do the extended
half double crochet,
which is really just a little bit taller half double crochet stitch.
Very simple to do and I'm going to show you right now.
I'm going to show you how to do the extended half double crochet.
So what I've done here is made a little tiny swatch,
and what I have is two rows of half
double crochet, which are these two rows here,
and then I have a row of extended half double
crochet above.
And I just wanted to show you the height difference.
You can see that it's almost as tall
as two rows of half double crochet.
And I wanted you to see kind of the difference in how the stitch looks.
This extended half double crochet almost looks like a double crochet.
And that's important to remember
for when you're working in rows or any time you need
to chain for height.
Because it looks like a double crochet
and it's about as tall as a double crochet, instead
of the normal chain two,
which is what we have here for this row of half double, instead
of doing that chain two, you're going to need to chain three.
So to get the proper height for your extended half double crochet,
first thing you do is
chain three.
And I'm going to count that as my very first stitch.
So I'm going to work into the next stitch.
Now the extended half double crochet has
the exact same steps as a foundation half double
crochet.
So if you know how to foundation half double crochet,
I have a link for it right there
There if you need it.
You will you'll be able to do this stitch easily.
The only thing is you're working into stitches instead of creating a
foundation chain. So you're gonna yarn over just like you would
for a half double and pull up a loop. Now instead of
yarning over and finishing this off
to make a half double, you're gonna first
kind of chain one. You're just gonna yarn over
and pull through that very first loop.
So, just like in a foundation half double crochet,
you pull through just that very first
loop to make your foundation chain.
But in this case, you're making a chain for height.
Now you're going to yarn over and finish off that half double.
And that is your extended half double.
You're going to chain one, technically,
and then finish off the half double on top.
So yarn over, insert into the next stitch,
lay over, yarn over, whatever you want to
call it.
Now instead of finishing it off,
just pull through that very first loop.
So you've made like a chain one,
then yarn over and pull through all three.
So this will make a less dense stitch than your half double,
but it's not too widely
used, but just in case you need it, this is how you're going to do it.
Otherwise you can just use a double crochet,
it's going to give you almost the exact same
effect.
I'll go to the end of the row
so you can see how to work into that chain three.
This is the last of the extended half double stitches.
So pull through that very first one.
Yarn over and pull through all three.
Now we're going to work into this chain three here by yarning over
and going into the two loops, which I like to do.
I don't like to catch one loop because it pulls on my other chains
and gives me a big hole.
So I always catch two loops, pull that up,
chain, and then half double.
You can see it creates a much taller stitch than
that regular half-double crochet.
And that's basically it.
That's how you're going to do the extended half-double crochet.
