All right, joining us now, Brooks Gardner,
to talk a little bit more about the weather
and what we can expect and what folks are still dealing
with who still are just getting all of this flooding, Brooks.
A really good tip I saw actually on Facebook was that in addition
to taking pictures of like the high water line,
if it got into your home for insurance claims, have a tape measure
so that you can see where the debris, like the dirt and stuff,
the mud, where the high water line is, so that when you're submitting
that image, it'll show, you know, eight inches or whatever it is.
Because that's a really
Really important determination for
drywall replacement and all that stuff.
So in any sense, we do have rising river levels.
This is not expected to become like a Hurricane Ian type of an event
where it's a catastrophic flood on the St. John's, nothing like that.
But we are seeing river levels rising into the weekend up
and down the St. John's,
and that will have...
Some impacts, maybe for instance in Sanford,
Seminole Boulevard, which is right along Lake Monroe there,
that beautiful bricked roadway, may see Lake Monroe overtopping
and kind of encroaching onto Seminole Boulevard. We'll see.
That's happened several times in the last couple of years.
This is the St. John's River system and it flows from south to north.
So all that water down there in Brevard County.
We'll have to flow upward toward Jacksonville over
the next several weeks and finally make its way out into the Atlantic.
It's a very rare river system in North
America where it flows from south to north.
But to give you an idea, in Astor,
the St. Johns is currently at 3.25 feet,
which is a moderate flood, expected to get up to about 3.3 feet.
And in doing so later today,
we may see some of that water coming up right up to the sill level
of some of the homes that are right on the river.
A lot of the homes are elevated.
They're on essentially stilts or at least a, you know.
Pier and beam system for the foundation
because of historic floods that have happened there
before but that's what we're looking at.
So if you have any garden equipment
or anything like that in the yard, bring it up to higher
ground.
And St. John's River near Sanford, that's what I
was talking about with that Seminole
Boulevard.
Maybe seeing the water making it over
the little seawall there and onto the road.
So right now, Melbourne here is live here at the Grills Riverside Cam.
This is the Indian River saltwater system here,
72 degrees, not subject to that flooding
from the rain but of course it's subject
to coastal flooding when we get king tides.
Nothing like that right now.
The king tides from earlier have long since recessed.
The radar is quiet at this point.
We may see a little fog developing toward daybreak.
It's a possibility.
We've already observed it here in the Tallahassee area.
Some of the models suggesting that,
you know, with this higher relative humidity
for a warm summer-like day today and these long nights,
we may see a little fog form.
But so far, so good.
72 now in Orlando, 70 in Sanford.
It's comfortable outside, but it's going to get warm today.
87 in Orlando today.
A little cooler with the coast, 84 in Titusville.
Getting out the door on this Thursday, it is November the 5th.
We're going to see temperatures going from 69 at 6 up to 80 by 10.
So it's going to feel really warm.
Yesterday, I was picking up the kids at school,
and we were looking at each other like,
what month is this? Is this August?
We're done with Halloween. We're thinking about Thanksgiving.
People
are putting up Christmas trees, and we're sitting there sweating.
Well, we've got cold front across
the western sections of the panhandle.
That'll be coming our way tomorrow, cooling us off for the weekend.
And out ahead of it, we may have some isolated
showers pop up today, maybe a rumble of thunder.
Between 2 p.m. and about 5 p.m.
Most of it should be over on the Gulf side of Florida,
but we'll keep an eye on that for you.
I'm thinking about the kids getting out of school
and your commute home.
Overall, about a 20% chance of rain today.
Big weather story is the warm weather for the next few days,
followed by a significant cool down.
Look at this, upper 70s starting on Sunday.
And then it looks like Wednesday, we may not get out of the mid-70s.
And the good news is that with cooler air,
we're not going to be subject to any kind
of flooding threat from additional rain.
All right, let's get to our staff this morning.
Here's a view.
From Lucy Alonzo in Ocala, talking about a Florida postcard,
those beautiful sable palms,
the cabbage palms there, rising in the sun.
We'd love to share your photos, scan
the QR code, that'll take you to our website,
fox35orlando.com slash sun, or I should say slash snap,
and from there you can upload
your photos.
That's where you gotta scan the QR code,
I don't know what the URL is, it's too early
in the morning to start talking about HTTPS, colon slash, I'll stop.
