Ladies and gentlemen,
we've had a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Chile.
Now, this is not something that's out of the ordinary.
This is a volcanic park.
And there's a lot of active volcanoes there,
along with a fault that runs just off the coast of Chile there.
And we have a lot of magma movement below those volcanoes.
The earthquake came in at a 7 on the DYFI,
a 6 on the Shaken map, an associated tsunami
warning, and at a depth of 76.6 kilometers.
Now here's a close-up of where
the USGS says the quake popped off.
You can see it's very close to the coast.
You can see that plate tectonic boundary running off the coast.
Jumping over to volcanoes and earthquakes.com,
we see our earthquake here in Chile.
Main source of Chilean seismic network.
It came in at 6.4.
Here it says.
40 miles of depth, a 64-kilometer,
so they're going to be in line with what the USGS said.
We have Raspberry Shake coming in at 6.5,
and the Germans at 6.3, so they're all over the place.
Let's get some detailed information here and figure it out.
Of a very strong magnitude 6.4 earthquake
Getting a little bit further into the details,
we've got to confirm 6.465,
according to Chilean Seismology Center down here,
and looks like about 3.8 atomic bombs worth of energy
were released from that blast. That is always amazing.
All right, comparing pink data from different reporting agencies,
starting out with Raspberry Shake.
A 6.5 and 104 kilometers.
Germany comes in at 6.3, 48 kilometers.
Incorporated Research Institute
for Seismology comes in at 6.4, 77 kilometers.
USGS is 6.4, 77 kilometers.
And we have the French coming in at 6.12,
10 kilometers are the default depth.
You can see that on the bottom.
Asterisk, the depth of 10 kilometers often means the depth
of the quake could not be determined with sufficient accuracy.
Following that, we have the Australians coming
in at 6.4, the Europeans at 6.5, the Italians at 6.6.
This might have been a much stronger quake than the USGS is reporting.
We did check the National Data Buoy Center.
because of the situation
and the indication there might be a tsunami associated with this
and we don't see any buoys in event mode across the globe.
So in conclusion, we've had a very
strong magnitude 6.4 earthquake in Chile
in a volcanic park in Chile, associated tsunami warning,
A seven on the DYF, a six on the ShakeLab, a depth
of 76.6 kilometers, and I'm guessing there's more
to come based on all of the solar weather
we've seen and geomagnetic weather we've seen over the last three days.
With that said, God bless.
