Well, if you use the W&OD Trail in Northern Virginia,
a heads up for you, there's a big vote coming up that could lead
to the ban of e-bikes and e-scooters for some folks out there.
Our Stephanie Ramirez live in Arlington
with what you need to know, Steph.
Hey, good morning. So we
are on the trail actually where it crosses Columbia Pike in Arlington.
And I can tell you the concern here and through to Loudoun County
is safety when it comes to these e-bikes and e-scooters.
People say they just go too fast.
And now this meeting, this is the Nova Parks
or the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.
They're planning to vote on whether to limit them across the W
and O and D trails entire 45 mile stretch.
This is according to Arlington Now,
which is also reporting that there could be a new up to two
$250 fine if people violate an approved trail regulation.
In the meantime, jurisdictions like Arlington County,
they've been hosting outreach sessions
to go over trail etiquette and safety.
They're also trying to make sure riders know some
e-motors are not actually e-bikes.
Even if it's sold as one, those can hit closer to 40 miles per hour.
Fox 5 was also told that a trail speed limit was considered,
but police opposed this because it could affect cyclists.
Kamani Lee, he was on an e-bike this morning.
He says 35 miles per hour and up, that's just too fast for the trail,
but he doesn't support an actual e-bike, e-scooter ban.
They're pretty safe. They go like no more than like 12 maybe 15 miles
per hour and it helps even I've seen even adults
not even just kids like use them to get to work and stuff like
that and so I feel like it's a great thing just to keep no matter what.
The e-bikes and scooters are very fast
when they go by and they almost run people down. They're very...
It's unsafe for bicyclists also
because people cut in front of the bicyclists.
So I'd really like to see them off the trail.
That was Fred Geisler you just heard from there.
He was telling us he had a near-miss incident tumbling off his bike.
There was an e-scooter involved there, he told us.
Now, we did reach out to Nova Parks.
According to Arlington Now, this big meeting,
guys, is slated for November 19th in Vienna.
I'll send it all back in to you.
