Pain and uncertainty of searching for a loved one can be unbearable.
I've interviewed families who've had missing loved ones for decades,
and the emotion that comes out
when they discuss them is as if they went missing yesterday,
because that uncertainty persists through time.
Forensic scientist at New York City's Office
of Chief Medical Examiner Kevin McKenna says
over the course of more than a decade,
they've made dozens of identifications.
He says it's what motivates the department.
And if our office can be of help in any way
to providing any answers to these families,
That's what motivates our staff to do the job that we do.
Now they're bringing those resources directly to the people.
They'll be holding a resource event
in downtown Brooklyn for New Yorkers
who have been missing someone for more than 60 days.
So bringing it to Brooklyn has been really great for us
because now we can serve some of those families
who may not have been able to use our resources prior.
People who attend can connect with the office,
provide information about that missing person,
do an interview, and provide a DNA sample if they choose.
There are resources we can offer you for free,
confidential, anytime you need.
You can come to this event in Brooklyn,
or you can come see us any other day.
We are here for you, and we're going
to help you to the best of our ability.
And the Brooklyn Missing Persons Day event will
be here at Brooklyn Borough Hall on Tuesday.
We'll have more information on our website at news12.com.
In downtown Brooklyn, Julia Burns, News 12.
