I've been wanting, this is like the thing I've been most excited about today.
Why does this work so well?
Okay, you ready?
Mashed fish.
No, it's weird.
Um, where, where, where do I start?
Yeah.
Oh, thank you.
Yes.
Awesome.
Amazing, thank you.
Um, why is your latte way bigger than mine?
Buddy, before anything.
Enjoy this because it's the only coffee we're getting here in Iceland.
Morning guys.
Welcome back to Iceland.
We're currently in Reykjavik and today we're going to be taking you around the city and
finding all the like the tastiest food that they have here and trying to choose all the
traditional spots.
But, um, we've started off with coffee, uh, just because mainly we wanted to see how expensive
it is because we've heard that Iceland's expensive.
And this coffee costs me $7.50 Australian.
Wow.
At home, my coffee usually costs me $3.
Or if it's the big yum.
Oh yeah.
Or if we go to our local service station, it's $0.80, which we love to go to.
But let's see what a $7.50 coffee tastes like.
Oh, I am very intrigued.
Also, I like how I ordered a cappuccino, but it's like a flat white.
There's no foam on top.
Yeah, it looks like that.
And then your latte is more like our cappuccino.
How weird.
Anyway, if you are just tuning in, Australians are very, um, snobby about their coffee.
We are very proud of it.
Okay, it's good coffee.
Okay, good.
It's very good coffee.
I'm team puffins.
I really hope we find some puffins here.
Uncommon without trying fish and chips.
And I think we found the cutest fish and chip shop here in Reykjavik.
So it's actually right in the middle of the harbour.
And it's just this dude.
This tiny little red box selling fish and chips.
Hey, can I please get one fish and chips?
And did you say you're out of the peas?
Okay, that's okay.
And then one sauce.
That's the coolest fish and chips box.
I'm just saying.
Ready for the big reveal?
It's fish and chips.
It looks good though.
So they're famous for their mushy peas that are meant to go with it,
but they were sold out.
So they must be very popular.
So instead he recommended this sauce, which is called remoulade.
I think he said it's like kind of like a pickled mayonnaise taste.
Pickled mayonnaise?
That is what it looks like.
Huh, it matches your jacket.
All right, should I go for a chip first?
Yeah.
We love a good chip.
So we'll be good judge of this.
So this is Icelandic quality with the British tradition.
Oh, that sauce is so yummy.
Is it?
It literally tastes like pickles and mayonnaise.
Oh, really?
Just like what he said.
It's really tasty.
It's got like a zing to it.
Oh, yum.
The chip, that is a good chip.
A good British chip.
Like it's, you know, crunch on the outside, soft on the inside.
That's a good chip.
All right.
So what type of fish do we have?
Oh, cod.
Cod fish.
Oh, do you reckon it's Icelandic cod?
Oh.
I think it is Icelandic cod.
Looks like there's pepper on it or something.
Good fish and chips.
Good for a day like this.
Wait, I need to try it with a dip.
That sauce is so good.
It's so yummy, Steve.
That pickled mayonnaise.
Wow, I think that's my favorite thing.
This is good fish and chips.
Chip.
But the sauce...
Don't worry, I dipped it.
This is the perfect spot for fish and chips.
It's just a food van at the dock.
So walking around the city,
you can't help but notice this gigantic centerpiece.
It's an Icelandic church.
Well, it's a church here in Iceland.
And it has super interesting architecture.
I mean, look at this.
So it's quite cold today.
So we're going to go and find a nice hot bowl of soup.
And lobster soup is super popular here in Iceland.
So we found a place that we've heard does a really good lobster soup.
It's funny how you say it's a cold day today.
We've been promised that today was the hottest day in Iceland in 20 years.
I think it's too early for Christmas stuff, Jess.
It's a whole Christmas store.
So we found Sea Baron.
That's the next stop.
And I'm pretty sure they do lobster soup.
Oh my gosh, lobster soup.
I don't know what to expect.
I've definitely never had it before.
How cool is this?
So it's right on the port.
I mean, this alleyway just looks so cool.
I think we've just found a Seabourn hat
because everyone's like,
what?
You got it so quick.
They're literally waiting an hour for their food
so we came up and were like,
um, oh hey, do you do takeaway?
They're like, actually we can if you want.
It'll be 15 minutes.
We're like, thanks.
Okay, so we've ordered two of their most like Icelandic dishes.
The first one being this amazing fish skewer.
They had all different types of fish.
So I asked her for the most Icelandic-y one.
Oh, can you remember the name of the fish?
It's cod.
No, it wasn't.
Oh, it was a different name.
No, I can't remember it now.
It was a white fish.
We'll find out and put the name up in the editing.
That looks amazing.
Hey, that looks pretty good.
And then the thing that we actually came for,
because this is what it's famous for.
Oh, I think she's put a nice hot fresh bread roll in there.
Ready for this, Stevie?
Oh, lobster soup.
Oh, look at that steam coming off.
Even though I will say the restaurant did look super cute.
This looks like date night.
This is the coolest background ever.
It's like drizzling just a little tiny bit.
And we have all these little jellyfish all in the water.
But are you ready?
Lobster soup.
I've been wanting...
This is like the thing I've been most excited about today.
So it's quite liquid-y.
Like I thought it was gonna be much thicker,
but it's quite runny.
Mmm, smells like seafood.
Oh, that is so tasty.
Really?
Really, really tasty.
It kind of reminds me of like a seafood soup with tomato soup mixed in.
Okay.
Like, and creamy.
But yeah, runnier than I thought.
I thought it was gonna be really thick.
This would have been so good if they served it inside a bread roll.
Oh, yes.
This is like the perfect winter's meal as well.
This would warm you up.
You're smashing that down.
We need to get in.
It's not a wine.
Earthy tones.
You instantly warmed up.
Oh, yeah.
And it like went straight into the chest instantly.
Do you like it?
I kind of like this takeaway.
Actually, oh, you missed all this.
No, there's chunks of lobster.
Okay.
Oh, go in.
Yeah, I felt it was a bit heavier than it should be.
It's still warm.
Is that the bit?
That's what you want.
It's softer than your standard prawn because it's been in there.
It's not a prawn.
It's lobster.
It's lobster soup.
Wait, wait, wait.
Don't eat all the lobster.
Oh, gosh.
All right.
So they put some lemon on here for us.
It looks like a kebab.
Yeah, it is.
And they grilled it.
I think we have some capsicum as well on there.
Where do I start?
My goodness, it's grilled.
I feel like we're making everyone hungry.
I'm so sorry, guys.
Actually, I'm not.
That tastes like we're in Australia.
We've gone down to the beach and grilled the fish there.
And it's like just the leftover juices is what's surrounding it.
And that fish is so soft.
Oh, yum.
You're gonna love it, Bubs.
This is like the perfect meal.
Oh, my gosh.
There is a reason that there was an hour wait.
That was the best fish I've ever had.
It was like juicy, but then charcoal-y.
Oh, because it was char-grilled.
Wow.
That place was so good.
So when you come to Iceland, you don't normally eat out every single day.
So we thought we would jump into a grocery store
and show you guys like the normal prices for some basic things.
So while we were in the store, we decided to pick up two very Icelandic things.
One is Icelandic, I guess, yogurt.
It's called...
I don't know how to pronounce it.
Sky?
Or Skyra?
S-K-Y-R.
But they had so many flavors.
I didn't know what to try.
So I went for vanilla as a classic.
And maybe we should have gone for natural, but...
Oh, it comes with a spoon.
That's kind of neat.
So this stuff's actually become really popular in other countries
because everyone's so into probiotics at the moment.
And this is like a huge probiotic.
What else has got big?
Sauerkraut, big at the moment.
Sauerkraut and kombucha, whatever it's called.
It's just kind of like that in that realm.
But anyway, are we ready?
I wonder if it's going to taste like yogurt.
It smells like vanilla yogurt.
Tastes like vanilla yogurt, I'm guessing.
It's really thick.
It tastes like vanilla yogurt.
Really sweet, but it's really thick.
Oh, it has a funny aftertaste.
Oh, it smells good.
That came over to me.
There's a funny aftertaste.
Yeah, weird aftertaste for me.
Really good yogurt.
Like that's the good stuff that dad buys.
I know, it's weird.
When you breathe that through your nose,
it has a weird aftertaste.
But that's really good yogurt though.
But weird aftertaste.
Alrighty, we had to get a bit of a drink.
We have the Icelantic Soda Appleson.
Smell it.
Tastes like apple cider.
Nah, I guess it's going to be orange.
Smells like Fanta.
Tastes like Fanta,
but tastes like someone's trying to mimic Fanta.
It's Fanta, what do you think?
No, it's like Fanta, but extra, extra bubbly.
Yeah, true, extra bubbly.
Way more carbonated than that Fanta.
I prefer this over Fanta.
It tastes more like real orange.
Soda water Fanta.
Still very sweet.
Really, oh, that's yummy.
Really bubbly.
Tastes more like real oranges.
Alrighty, we are now off to go and get some dessert.
Iceland is known for having amazing rye bread.
Now I know this isn't a dessert, hear me out.
First things first is,
it's traditional actually to cook rye bread
using the geothermal heat from the ground here in Iceland,
which is amazing.
Yeah, we're going to a place called Cafe Loki
and they serve rye bread ice cream.
I've never heard of it.
I've never tried it before
and I'm really, really excited
because it's something so unique.
Perfect name to have the ice cream store, Loki.
Of course, he is the mischievous, naughty Norse god
and dessert is just the naughtiest food to have.
Okay, so we've got the rye ice cream,
but we're not going to start with that right now.
We've decided if we're going to come here for rye ice cream,
we may as well try the rye bread
and they actually make homemade rye bread here
and we're having it two ways that are Icelandic.
This one is mashed fish
and this one is herring with eggs.
So let's go mash fish first.
Yeah.
Okay, I don't think I've ever had rye bread
that looks like this before.
It looks super healthy, the rye bread,
though it actually looks like banana bread.
That's how dark it is.
Okay, you ready?
Mashed fish.
Oh my gosh.
Does it work?
That is delicious.
No, really?
Yeah.
Wow, that is so yummy.
The bread is really soft.
I thought it was going to be really hard
and it's not dry at all.
And what about the actual fish?
The mashed fish tastes like creamy fish.
Creamy fish, what kind of fish?
Like a salmon-tasting fish?
Wow.
I think it's mashed trout.
Okay.
It does have that salmon-y trout kind of taste.
Oh, it's really yummy, Steve.
Wow.
Okay, so I'm going to try mine.
So it looks like we have a piece of herring
topped with some onions
and that looks like just egg, just boiled egg.
Like it slices through like banana bread.
It's banana bread.
I'm going to try get a massive bite here.
Why does this work so well?
So the bread's sweet,
to add to my theory of it being banana bread,
but this is sweet rye bread.
Just for some reason,
egg and fish just go so well together.
This is, if someone served this as hors d'oeuvres,
as entrees,
this would be so tasty.
Wow.
All right, time for what we've actually come here for.
They've also served this in like an icy cold bowl,
I guess to stop it from...
Oh yeah, it's cold.
Yeah, to stop it from melting.
But are we ready?
It's harder than I thought.
Has no smell.
Does it work?
Oh my gosh.
Is it because it's sweet?
That is so yummy.
It's really sweet.
It doesn't taste like bread.
Wait, I need another...
You know what it reminds me of?
It tastes like cookies and cream.
Like the bread tastes like more like cookies in it.
It's like vanilla ice cream.
No, it tastes just like cookies and cream.
That's how I'd describe it and it is delicious.
This is the perfect way to end our little food tour around Recife.
So if you only have the time or the budget to go to one of those places...
Seabourn.
Yeah, I think it was Seabourn.
And if you want to wait the hour,
wait the hour and just sit in and eat,
then the food there was amazing.
Highly recommend it.
Alrighty guys, we've changed hotels.
We're now staying at the Guesthouse Aurora.
Let me show you around.
Okay.
So we're just in the process of packing for our camping trip,
but this is our room.
It's actually super spacious to be honest.
Twin share?
Yep, twin share.
And then we've got our desk here that we're doing all the charging,
ready for the camping trip.
I'm so excited.
So we've just jumped on an intrepid 18 to 29s camping trip.
We'll leave a link below if you wanted to follow along
where we're going to be seen in Iceland.

We're leaving Reykjavik and we're going to do the golden circle.

When was the last time we set one up?
A while.
